UCPN (M) braces for internal showdown


The UCPN (Maoist) central committee meeting scheduled to be held at the party headquarters, Peris Danda, Monday afternoon is all set to see a showdown between the rival factions on a number of issues.

Party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister and vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai will be facing a tough challenge by the hardliner Mohan Baidya faction to justify some of their latest moves including the signing of the seven-point agreement between the major parties and the four-point deal with Madhesis that paved the way for Bhattarai-led government.

Baidya faction is also preparing to present a separate proposal against the decisions of the Dahal-Bhattarai alliance.

Baidya loyalist lawmakers have even threatened to go against the proposal to amend the Interim Constitution in Wednesday's voting in the parliament. If approved, the amendment will pave the way for formation of the expert panel to suggest on state restructuring.

Earlier, CC meeting called settle the internal dispute was put off a number of times.
