Heavy clashes between Turkish soldiers and militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been reported in both the Turkish and Kurdish media.
The clashes in the rural areas of Hakkari province in Turkey's Kurdish southeast, which borders the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, have been ongoing for several days according to Kurdish sources.
Turkish media reported this morning that three soldiers had died and a soldier was injured in clashes in the Yuksekova district of Hakkari. Four militants were killed according to military sources while sporadic clashes continue.
Meanwhile ANF has reported clashes in the Semdinli, Yuksekova and Cukurca districts of Hakkari since 29 October. Sixteen soldiers have been killed in several attacks on military outposts according to figures released by the media centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG), the military wing of the PKK. The Turkish media has not reported on these clashes.
The HPG has not yet made a statement about the clashes today.
Clashes between the Turkish army and Kurdish fighters have been under-reported in international media recently with attention directed at developments in Syria and Iraq.
