You may destroy us in Russia. You may destroy the Russian revolution in Russia. You may overthrow me. It will make no difference. A hundred years ago the monarchies of Britain, Prussia, Austria, Russia, overthrew the government of revolutionary France. They restored a monarch, who was called a legitimate monarch, to power in Paris. But they could not stop, and they did not stop, the middle-class political revolution, the revolution of middle class democracy, which had been started at Paris by the men of the French Revolution of 1789. They could not save feudalism.

India: Harsh Thakor Says Salute Gathering on 21st December in Kolkata against State Fascism.

SALUTE PROTEST GATHERING ON DECEMBER 21st AT KOLKATA COLLEGE SQUARE TO DAY RESSURECTING THE SPIRIT OF REVOLUTIONARY RESISTANCE AGAINST STATE FASCISM.

I WAS PRESENT AT THE WHOLE GATHERING AND APPLAUDED THIS JOINT EFFORT OF COMMUNIST REVOLUTIONARY FORCES AND DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTING ALL TRENDS WITHIN THE REVOLUTIONARY CAMP,CONDEMNING THE FASCIST KILLING OF MAOIST COMRADES AND ADIVASIS IN MALKANGIRI,

MUSLIMS IN BHOPAL AND MAOISTS IN KERALA.ALTHOUGH CONSTITUTING ABOUT 500 PEOPLE SUCH AN EFFORT SOWS THE SEEDS FOR A MAJOR TORRENT TO OCCUR.

PRIVILEGED TO SEE SUCH FIERCE DETERMINATION THROUGHOUT THE REVOLUTIONARY CAMP PRESENT TODAY AND THE BURNING ENTHUSIASM OF THE YOUTH AT THE END SHOUTING SLOGANS CONDEMNING THE MALKANGIRI MASSACRE..THE END DID FITTING JUSTICE TO THE SPIRIT OF THE PROGRAMME.

A great rally was staged at College Square comprising around 600 persons in Kolkata where participants came from the Class Struggle,Red Star,P.C.C and New Democracy factions of the C.P.I.(M.L.),United Democratic Students front  supporting C.P.I.(Maoist),Radical group,Shramik Sangram Union etc.

It was presided by Purnendu Mukherjee CC member of C.P.I.(Maoist) who was released on bail on health grounds  and Gaur Chakravorty.

What was heartening was that all sections of the Communist revolutionary camp participated and some pr-worker organizations.

In the end Youth of the United Students Democratic Front vehemently shouted slogan s condemning the Malkangiri encounters and Bhopal Killings.

In fact it was the youth who gave the programme it's life.All speakers related the fascist nature of the killings and how this state is becoming more and more repressive day by day.

Irrespective of differences all agreed that one has to be sympathetic to the Maoist brethren and the Muslim victims.

Such a programme all though quantitatively small in the qualitative sense lays the roots for building an anti-fascist movement.

I was deeply impressed with the enthusiasm of all the participants be it youth tribals, students or workers.

It proved the potential of a democratic movement emerging.

In the moral sense a red flame lit the Red square.

Lenin's view of the Christmas Truce in 1914

 

The truce began on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1914, when German troops began decorating the area around their trenches in the region of Ypres, Belgium, for Christmas. They began by placing candles on trees, then continued the celebration by singing Christmas carols, most notably Stille Nacht (Silent Night).

The British troops in the trenches across from them responded by singing English carols. The two sides continued by shouting Christmas greetings to each other. Soon thereafter, there were calls for visits across the "No Man's Land" where small gifts were exchanged — whisky, jam, cigars, chocolate, and the like. The artillery in the region fell silent that night. The truce also allowed a breathing spell where recently-fallen soldiers could be brought back behind their lines by burial parties.
Proper burials took place as soldiers from both sides mourned the dead together and paid their respects. At one funeral in No Man's Land, soldiers from both sides gathered and read a passage from the 23rd Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
The truce spread to other areas of the lines, and there are many stories of football matches between the opposing forces. The film Joyeux Noël suggests that letters sent home from both British and German soldiers related that the score was 3-2 in favour of the Germans.  

Lenin, the leader of the working class revolution in Russia, heard about the Christmas truce. He pointed out that if there were organizations prepared to fight for such a policy among the soldiers of all the belligerent nations, there might have been a quick end to the world war in favor of the working masses. Lenin wrote, “Try to imagine Hyndman, Guesde, Vandervelde, Plekhanov, Kautsky and the rest [leaders of so-called socialist parties that supported the world war] – instead of aiding the bourgeoisie (something they are now engaged in – forming an international committee to agitate for fraternization and attempts to establish friendly relations between the socialists of the belligerent countries, both in the trenches and among the troops in general. What would the results be several months from now?”

Russia: Russia says it has no illusions about a potential breakthrough in relations with the United States,

Russia says it has no illusions about a potential breakthrough in relations with the United States, whose incoming administration is perceived to be Russia-friendly.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday that communications with the present US administration had been frozen at most levels but expressed hope that the administration of President-elect Donald Trump would have a more constructive attitude toward Russia.

Even so, he said Moscow did not anticipate a breakthrough.

“We’re not wearing rose-tinted glasses, we have no illusions about any breakthroughs but hope for a more constructive approach,” Peskov said.

Ties between the US and Russia have plunged to new lows in recent times as a result of conflicts in Europe and elsewhere. In Europe, Russia is wary of the US-led NATO’s military expansion toward Russian borders. The US has also imposed sanctions on Moscow and blacklisted Russian companies and individuals over the Ukrainian crisis and the 2014 unification of Crimea with Russia.

In the Middle East and Africa, too, the two Cold War-era rivals often find themselves on the opposite sides of conflicts.

The outgoing administration of US President Barack Obama recently renewed sanctions on Moscow, a move Russia “regretted.” The Obama administration recently also claimed that Russia had been directly involved in cyber attacks designed to impact the US presidential election, which saw Trump emerging victorious.

Trump, however, has adopted a softer tone on Russia and praised Putin as a strong leader, much to the chagrin of many US politicians. His nominee for secretary of state,  Rex W. Tillerson, in particular is deemed a Russia-friendly figure.

Putin has reiterated Moscow’s willingness to work with Trump, stressing the importance of the normalization of relations between the two countries.

Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2017.

SALUTE HEROIC PROTEST OF FARMERS ALL OVER PUNJAB RADIATING THE SPARK OF RESISTANCE AGAINST THE RUTHLESS POLICIES OF THE RULING CLASSES.HAIL THE UNITY OF LANDED PEASANTRY WITH LANDLESS AGRICULTURAL LABOURERS

A massive protest in almost all districts of Punjab was unleashed by a joint front of 13 peasant organizations like the Ugrahan,Dkaunda ,Krantikaru factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union,the Punjab Khet Mazdur Union,both faction sof t Pendu Mazdur union and the Punjab Khet mazdur union and the Kirti Kisan Union.

The framers gheraoed the homes of the ministers of all the districts displaying their great resilience to win justice and showed great determination in resisting the police blockade in Moga.

The gatherings were particularly large at Bathinda and Patiala with around 3000 people assembling.It testified the great potential of the Punjab peasantry to convert a spark into a prairie fire and the importance of a united front of organizations from so many trends.

Above all it  raised the demands of the landed peasants and the landless dalit labourers which would lay a base for unity of the landed and landless sections of peasantry and not isolate the dalit landless community..

Sangrur, December 19

A 55-year-old farmer, Darshan Singh, of Sadopur village (near Malerkotla) allegedly “consumed” some poisonous substance at a dharna organised by 12 farmer and labourer organisations near Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa’s residence here today.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital here, from where he was referred to Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

The protesters came to know about the incident when Darshan started vomiting there. Some people said he consumed some poisonous substance as he was under a lot of stress due to debt.

Sandeep Wadehra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sangrur, said this evening that Darshan Singh was in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Government Rajindra Hospital.

Earlier, the protesters gathered at the local BSNL Park here, from where they marched towards the residence of Dhindsa while raising slogans against the government and in support of their demands.

The demands include loan waiver for debt-ridden farmers and farm labourers, 10-marla plots for landless farmers and labourers for constructing houses and cancellation of “dummy auction” of panchayat land reserved for SCs in Jhaloor village (near Lehragaga).

In Moga, protesters gun for Agri Minister

Moga: Hundreds of farmers marched towards the residence of Agriculture Minister Tota Singh on the national highway but the police stopped them just a few yards away. They blocked the national highway for a few hours.

The protesters raised slogans against Tota Singh, accusing him of the pesticide scam and the supply of substandard seed that resulted in repeated crop failures and the whitefly attack in the last few years.

General Secretary of the BKU (Ekta) Sukhdev Singh Kokri said, 

“Farmers and farm labourers are under great stress, resulting in suicides. The government needs to come to the farmers’ assistance.”
