India: Historic Eight Documents of Charu Mazumdar

 Charu Mazumdar

Charu Majumdar (Bengali: চারু মজুমদার; 1918–1972) was a communist revolutionary from India. Charu Majumdar's life is a story of "riches to rags". Born in a progressive landlord family in Siliguri in 1918, he later joined the militant Naxalite cause. He also authored the historic accounts of the 1968 Naxalbari uprising and his writings have become the ideology which guides revolutionaries  today

Our Tasks in the Present Situation (28th January, 1965 – First Document)

The Congress government has arrested one thousand communists during the last one month. Most of Central and Provincial leadership are in jail today. Gulzarilal Nanda has announced that he will not accept the verdict of the electorate (and he has not), and he has started telling absurd stories about guerrilla warfare. This offensive against democracy has begun because of the internal and international crisis of capitalism. The Indian government has gradually become the chief political partner in the expansion of American imperialism’s hegemony of the world. The main aim of American imperialism is to establish India as the chief reactionary base in South-East Asia.

The Indian bourgeoisie is unable to find any way to solve its internal crisis. The perennial food crisis, its ever increasing price level, are creating obstacles for the Five-Year Plan, and as a result of this, there is no other way for the Indian bourgeoisie to come out from this crisis excepting importing more and more Anglo-American imperialist capital. As a result of this dependence on imperialism, the internal crisis of capitalism is bound to increase day by day.

The Indian bourgeoisie has not been able to find out any other way except killing democracy, faced with the instructions of American imperialism and its own internal crisis. There were imperialist instructions behind these arrests, since the American police chief ‘Macbright’ was in Delhi during the arrest of the communists, and the widespread arrests took place only after discussions with him. By killing democracy there can be no solution of this crisis, and the Indian bourgeoisie also will not be able to solve this crisis. The more the Government will be dependent on imperialism, the more it will fail to solve its internal crisis. With every passing day, the people’s discontent will increase, and with every passing day, the internal conflict of the bourgeoisie is bound to increase.

Imperialist capital demands the arrest of communists as a precondition before investing; so also it wants a temporary solution of the food problem. To solve this food crisis, some steps to stop trade and profiteering in food are necessary, and it is for this that control is necessary. In a country of backward economy like India, this control invariably faces Opposition from a large section. This conflict of the bourgeoisie is not mainly a conflict between monopoly capitalists and the national bourgeoisie. This conflict is mainly between the trading community and the monopoly industrialists. In a country of backward economy, trade in foodstuff and essential commodities is inevitable for the creation of capital, and control creates obstacles in the creation of this capital, and as a result of that, internal conflict takes the form of internal crisis. India is a vast country. It is not possible to rule the 450 million people of this country by following a policy of repression. It is not possible for any imperialist country to take such a big responsibility. American imperialism is writing in death pangs, in keeping its commitment to those countries of the world which it has assured of giving aid. Meanwhile, an industrial crisis has developed in America. It can be seen from President Johnson’s utterance itself that the number of unemployed is increasing in the country. According to the official statement, four million people are absolutely unemployed; 35 million people are semi-unemployed and in factories also semi-unemployment is continuing. So the Indian Government will fail to suppress the ever-increasing discontent of the people. This attack on democracy will inevitably transform the people’s discontent into struggles. Some indication of the shape of the protest movement of tomorrow is available from the language movement of Madras. So, the coming era is not merely an era of big struggles, but also an era of big victories. The Communist Party therefore will have to take the responsibility of leading the people’s revolutionary struggles in the coming era, and we shall be able to carry out the responsibility successfully only when we are able to build up the party organisation as a revolutionary organisation.

What is the main basis for building up a revolutionary organisation? Comrade Stalin has said: “The main basis for building up a revolutionary organization is the revolutionary cadre.” Who is a revolutionary cadre? A revolutionary cadre is he who can analyse the situation at his own initiative and can adopt policies according to that. He does not wait for anyone’s help.

Our Organisational Slogans –

1. Every party member must form at least one Activist Group of five. He will educate the cadres of this Activist Group in political education.
2. Every party member must see to it that no one from this group is exposed to the police.
3. There should be an underground place for meetings of every Activist Group. If necessary, shelters for keeping one or two underground will have to be arranged.
4. Every Activist Group must have a definite person for contacts.
5. A place should be arranged for hiding secret documents.
6. A member of the Activist Group should be made a member of the Party as soon as he becomes an expert in political education and work.
7. After he becomes a Party member, the Activist Group must not have any contact with him.
This organisational style should be firmly adhered to. This organisation itself will take up the responsibility of revolutionary organisation in the future.

What will be the Political Education?

The main basis of the Indian Revolution is agrarian revolution. So, the main-slogan of the political propaganda campaign will be–make the agrarian revolution successful. The extent to which we are able to propagate the programme of agrarian revolution among the workers and the petty-bourgeoisie and educate them in it, to that extent they will be educated in political education. Every Activist Group should discuss the class analysis among the peasantry, the propaganda of the programme of agrarian revolution.

LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTION

A Review of War and Revolution by Domenico Losurdo : Rejecting Revisionist History by Ron Jacobs -

512s7z4Q6PL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

A popular understanding of history in today’s world involves blaming the most radical revolutionaries of France in the late 18th century and Russia in 1917 for many of the modern ills.

This trend is espoused in intellectual and popular culture and is the foundation on which much of modern politics is based. For the wealthy and the currently powerful, it is a self-serving and incredibly useful understanding.

Hence, any popular attempts to alter this view are ruthlessly belittled and denied. It was exactly this that took place in the 1960s and the 1970s when colonized peoples, young people, workers and others reconsidered their role in history and took to the streets, forever changing the political/cultural landscape we live in.

In the years since, however, it is the historical understanding that serves the powerful that has been on the ascendant. Most commonly known among historians as revisionism, this understanding not only blames revolutionary forces for humanity’s murderous excesses, it also urges a return to a semi-feudal situation that stratifies people in terms of class, race and gender, allowing different levels of economic and political freedom according to a hierarchy designed by those in power.

In effect, it wishes to legally create the political world already being formed economically through neoliberalism.

Revisionism is a liberal approach to history.

It equates the colonialism, racism and anti-Semitism of Nazism with the anti-colonial, anti-racist and liberationist foundations of communism.

In doing so, it also ignores essential indisputable facts of western capitalist development. Foremost among these denials are the role the African slave trade played in every European nation that was involved, its fundamental role (along with slavery itself) in the United States, and colonialism.

By ignoring colonialism’s essential role—and because of the racism inherent in the revisionist analysis—wars against colonized peoples are not even considered wars.

In other words, unless Europeans are dying on a massive scale, there is no war. This is especially the case in those situations (for example, the massacre by German settlers of the Herero and Nama peoples in southern Africa or the US in Grenada, Panama and the first Gulf War) where the number of dead at the hands of the victor far outweighs the number of the victorious army’s dead.

In the conduct of war, all governments involved are more alike than different, more genocidal than peace seeking, more authoritarian than rights protecting. Total war means total mobilization and imprisonment or even death to those who disagree. God forgive the soldier unwilling to participate: Losurdo writes of an Italian general during World War One who “carried out trench inspections with an execution squad in tow” to save time. The battle is the most important thing, after all. The unwilling cannon fodder had best be aware.

The end of the 1970s did not mean an end to the non-revisionist understanding of history made popular by the masses in the streets. It did, however, signal a renewed effort to stifle that particular strain. This was in line with the times. Thatcher and Reagan were presiding over neoliberal capitalism’s opening salvos on the Keynesian economic state and re-arming their already powerful militaries.

The Soviet Union was heading towards a demise fostered by political and economic miscalculation intensified by a war against its 1917 revolution that began before the revolution had the means to solidify.

In the face of the neoliberal attack, socialist and social democratic governments in Europe were beginning to become their opposite, remaining socialist or social democrat in name only. Ever since then, the Left has been either fighting to regain a sense of possibility or signing up with the neoliberal offensive pretending it can still be leftist while embracing monopoly capitalism’s most inhumane incarnation to date.

Domenic Losurdo is an Italian Marxist and philosopher. He is also one of today’s most acute critics of liberalism.

His latest work to be translated into English, War and Revolution: Rethinking the Twentieth Century, is an intellectual rebuke to the revisionist historians masquerading as objective arbiters of the past when in reality their words serve finance capital and its ravaging of the planet.

Losurdo rejects the West’s portrayal of itself as civilized and humane in contrast to Russia and the East.

Philosopher by philosopher, historian by historian, he dissects those western intellectuals’ attempts to mythologize these lies cleverly and decisively.

Losurdo takes the attempts by various revisionist historians to blame the Bolsheviks and French Jacobins for the history of terror and turns them on their head.

Instead, he writes, It is the reactionary and liberal capitalist regimes whose policies of total war and forced removal of populations (the Native Americans and the Africans, most notably) which created the reaction of the revolutionary governments.

In other words, it was not the revolutionary forces as represented by the Jacobins and the Bolsheviks who brought mass murder, ethnic cleansing and slavery into this world, but the governments against which they revolted.

Furthermore, Losurdo includes the phenomenon of twentieth-century fascism in the western colonial tradition.

In other words, Hitler’s plans to colonize Eastern Europe were not outside of the West’s previous colonialist endeavor.

In fact, as Losurdo repeatedly mentions, Hitler admired the totality of the American settlers’ eradication of the indigenous peoples whose land they stole and saw it as a model for his brand of fascism.

Losurdo argues that in the reactionary system there is no war but “racial” war.

He cites the propaganda used by the capitalist nations to mobilize the citizens in their respective states, turning the twentieth century wars against communism into wars against foreign, “Asiatic,” even Jewish ideologies.

One finds a similar scenario in the twenty-first century where wars against nations with large Muslim populations have become “racialized” wars against the Muslim world itself.

As Losurdo makes clear, this racialization has helped create a mindset allowing for what he calls “the rehabilitation of colonialism.”

In other words, the powers that be promote their self-serving idea that there are parts of the world—mostly non-white—that could benefit from being colonized by those powers.

In what can only be described as an ironic instance, I heard this sentiment expressed by two African-American men in Greenwich Village’s Washington Square Park on September 11, 2001 while the smoke from the burning Twin Towers scraped the nostrils and throats of every one present.

War and Revolution: Rethinking the Twentieth Century is a relentless document.

It is dense and disconcerting. This is precisely why it should be considered one of the most important history books written since the events known as 9-11.

After all, it was those events which took the revisionist project already underway since the late 1970s and put it into hyperdrive.

By intention, there has not been a day of peace.

Luisa Calderon : Victim and Survivor by Bridget Brereton

                                                            General Thomas Picton

General Thomas Picton who died at the Battle of Waterloo is to be honoured as a example of British values by the new Conservative Government in Britain during the Battle of Waterloo Bi Centenary celebrations on the 19th/20th June 2015.

General Picton was a great hero of Victorian England and many places in Britain, Canada and Australia are named after him.

We publish an article on General Picton from the Trinidad Daily Express which exposes General Picton as the the man who authorised the torture of a fourteen year old girl in Trinidad , Luisa Calderon - it is possible she was even younger.

Our Comrades at the  Yr Aflonyddwch Mawr in Wales are calling for a Celebration of the storming of the Carmarthen Workhouse which occurred on 19th June 1843 led by Frances Evans and boycott of the Waterloo Celebrations.

Yr Aflonyddwch Mawr  want to uphold the Welsh values of Social Justice on that day and oppose the celebration of  General Picton and British Imperialist values which result in the torture of children in the name of Empire..

Below is an article by Bridget Brereton on Luisa Calderon, we will be publishing more on the Thomas Picton's reign of terror in Trinidad before June 20th.

In his column in the Sunday Express of October 30, Raffique Shah wrote about the death of two of his comrades who were "lions of '70"—the Black Power Movement of that era—but whose contributions to society were little known outside a small circle.

"They pass on and the wider society that benefitted from their struggles hardly knew them", he wrote; "they depart without song, trumpets".

This made me think about the many men and women of the past who led interesting lives, who contributed in different ways to Trinidad and Tobago, but who have been largely forgotten. One of the historian's responsibilities is to make such individuals better known to people of the present day, to rescue them from the "oblivion" or forgetfulness of history.

But we can only do that if there are surviving sources about them, whether these are documents, or oral traditions, or the memories of people still alive. As we go further back in time, it is usually documents (written sources) that we need to find.

In this and the next two articles, I'll introduce readers to three interesting women who lived in 19th century Trinidad. In each case, we know something about them because (for different reasons) documents have survived about them, or written by them—what historians call a paper trail.

I'll start with Luisa Calderon, because she lived in the very early 1800s. She was what was known as a "free coloured": a mixed-race person, daughter of a freed "mulatto" woman of Venezuelan origin. She wasn't enslaved; she lived with another mixed-race person, Pedro Ruiz, a Port of Spain merchant.

In 1801, when she was about 14, or maybe even younger, she was accused of stealing money from Ruiz's shop. Ruiz himself accused her, and claimed she was acting in collusion with the man he thought was her new lover, Carlos Gonzalez.

Luisa was first examined by the governor, Thomas Picton, and then handed over to the chief magistrate of the town, St Hilaire Begorrat, Picton's close ally.

After she spent some days in the town jail, Begorrat tried and failed to get a "confession" from her.

He recommended that Luisa should be tortured, and Picton authorised it.

In fact, it seems clear enough that there was no robbery, that Luisa and Gonzalez had been framed by a jealous Ruiz.

But the decision to torture the young girl embroiled Picton in a scandal which nearly ruined his career, and made Luisa famous.

The torture applied, an old Spanish military punishment, involved suspending Luisa by her left wrist from a rope, while her left foot was tied to her right hand, and her right foot rested on a pointed stake. It was called "the piquet".

She was subjected to this agonising pain on two occasions, each time for anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour (the witnesses disagreed).

Not surprisingly, Luisa did "confess": she said Gonzalez had done it.

She was held in the jail, in "irons", for another eight months and then freed; her wrists were marked for life.

Gonzalez was fined and deported from Trinidad.

It was not long after this brutal and illegal torture had been inflicted on her that Luisa became famous, because the act was the most important item in formal charges brought against Picton, for which he was tried in England.

If this hadn't happened, we might never have known about Luisa's ordeal.

Picton's enemies, in Trinidad and Britain, saw that the charge of illegally authorising such an inhumane torture on a very young girl could ruin him. Drawings of Luisa being tortured in the Port of Spain jail were published and widely circulated.

She was taken up by Picton's main opponent, William Fullarton, and his wife. They brought Luisa to Britain in 1803, and supported her there for several years—the court case involving her took a long time and of course her testimony was needed.

People's love for scandal being as great 200 years ago as today, Picton's allies spread rumours that Luisa gave birth to Fullarton's child when she was in Scotland. (Fullarton sued, and the case was going on when he died; Mrs Fullarton continued to look after Luisa in Britain). More generally, the rumour was that she was a prostitute whom the Fullartons introduced into "polite society" in Britain.

Luisa did give evidence at Picton's trial in the Court of the King's Bench in 1806; he was found guilty.

But a retrial was ordered, and he was eventually acquitted in 1808.

Both trials were extensively reported in the British newspapers and the published reports of "celebrity trials". Luisa was famous even if the eventual verdict got Picton off. The picture of her torture was widely published.

As far as we know, Luisa returned to Trinidad after the final trial in 1808. And then she disappeared from the record; we don't know what became of her. But we do know that she survived her ordeal and became perhaps the first Trinidadian woman to be visible as an individual in the archive, the first to play a part (even if forced on her) in public affairs.

India: "We are all Chatradhar Mahato" Rally at Jadavpur University

May 14, 2015 Statement by Sanhati Collective We condemn the judgement of the Midnapore district and sessions court on 11th May, 2015, convicting Chatradhar Mahato, spokesperson of the Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) of Lalgarh, Sukhshanti Baske, treasurer of the PCPA, Sambhu Soren and Sagun Murmu, members of PCPA, and Raja (Tinku) Sarkhel and Prasun Chattopadhyay, members of Gana Pratirodh Manch, for sedition and waging war against the state.

The first four, Chatradhar Mahato, Sukhshanti Baske, Sambhu Soren and Sagun Murmu, have also been convicted under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the first convictions under UAPA in West Bengal. All have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

We consider this judgement to be a travesty of justice and an attempt by the state to send a clear message to peoples’ movements across West Bengal and India that any dissent against the state and the ruling classes will be answered in a ruthless manner.

The Lalgarh movement, of which these people were participants, was an uprising of the adivasi-moolvasi people of Jangalmahal against the police repression and exploitation which they have suffered for decades.

Because Chatradhar Mahato and his comrades stood up against it, and people like Raja Sarkhel and Prasun Chattopadhyay stood in solidarity with them, they are being made an example in front of us. They have been in jail since 2009 while the trial has dragged on for six long years, finally leading to this conviction.

Chatradhar Mahato was also charged with 38 other cases, linked to every possible incident in Jangalmahal during the Lalgarh movement, in each of which he has obtained bail. Seeing the unviability of these cases against him, the state has used these UAPA and sedition charges to keep him and his comrades imprisoned for this long time, and now have allowed them to be convicted under these charges.

It is a telling state of affairs that while famous film stars convicted of running over sleeping pavement dwellers get immediate bail after conviction and politicians known to have amassed hundreds of crores of rupees get acquitted, leaders and workers of peoples’ movements face possible death penalty or lifelong imprisonment.

We call upon all democracy-loving people to come out in protest against this conviction and demand the unconditional release of Chatradhar Mahato and his comrades and all others who have stood in solidarity with the peoples movement in Jangalamahal

Press Release from Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisation (CDRO)

UAPA: An alibi for political vendetta

CDRO (Coordination of Democratic Rights Organizations)unequivocally condemns the judgement of the Midnapore (West Bengal) district and sessions court on 12th May, 2015, convicting Chatradhar Mahato, spokesperson of the Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) of Lalgarh, along with Sukhshanti Baske, treasurer of the PCPA, Sambhu Soren and Sagun Murmu, members of PCPA and Raja (Tinku) Sarkhel and Prasun Chattopadhyay, members of Gana Pratirodh Manch for sedition and waging war against the state.

The first four, namely Chatradhar Mahato, Sukhshanti Baske, Sambhu Soren and Sagun Murmu, have also been convicted under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the first convictions under UAPA in West Bengal.

They have all been sentenced to life imprisonment under charges of sedition. CDRO considers this judgement to be not only a travesty of justice but also a political attempt by the state to send a clear message to peoples’ movements across West Bengal and India that any dissent against the state and any democratic opposition to the ruling classes will be severely dealt with, including through adverse judicial pronouncements.

The Lalgarh movement, of which these people were participants, was an uprising of the adivasi-moolvasi people of Jangalmahal against the police repression and exploitation which they have suffered for decades. Because Chatradhar Mahato and his comrades stood up against the unrelenting exploitation of the adivasi and poor people, and people like Raja Sarkhel and Prasun Chattopadhyay stood in solidarity with them, they are being targeted.

They have been in jail since 2009 while the trial has dragged on for six long years without bail, finally leading to this conviction. Chatradhar Mahato was also falsely implicated in 38 other cases, linked to every possible incident in Jangalmahal during the Lalgarh movement, most of which have remained unsustainable by the persecution.

Seeing the un-tenability of these cases against him, the state has used these UAPA and sedition charges to keep him and his comrades imprisoned for this long time, and now have allowed them to be convicted under these charges.

It is a telling state of affairs that judiciary delivers what the government wishes and leaders and workers of peoples’ movements face lifelong imprisonment. CDRO calls upon all democracy-loving people to come out in protest against this conviction. CDRO also demands the unconditional release of Chatradhar Mahato and his comrades and all others political prisoners.

CDRO also demands the rubbishing of the grotesquely draconian UAPA forthwith. Coordinators of CDRO : C. Chandrasekhar (CLC, Andhra Pradesh), Paramjeet Singh (PUDR, Delhi), Parmindar Singh (AFDR, Punjab), Phulendro Konsam (COHR, Manipur) and Tapas Chakraborty (APDR, West Bengal)

Constituent Organisations: Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR, West Bengal); Bandi Mukti Morcha (West Bengal); Campaign for Peace & Democracy in Manipur (CPDM), Delhi; Civil Liberties Committee (CLC); Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights (CPDR, Mumbai); Coordination for Human Rights (COHR, Manipur); Human Rights Forum (HRF, Andhra Pradesh); Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS), Assam; Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR); Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR, Andhra Pradesh); Peoples’ Committee for Human Rights (PCHR, Jammu and Kashmir); Peoples Democratic Forum (PDF, Karnataka); Peoples Union For Democratic Rights (PUDR, Delhi); Peoples Union for Civil Rights (PUCR, Haryana) and Jharkhand Council For Democratic Rights (JCDR).

Speak Out Against the Verdict on Chhatradhar Mahato and Others

Radical Socialist 11 May, 2015

India is a country, where the rich alone have legal rights, where the rich alone are truly patriotic. The poor are good, only when they accept torture in silence, and remain quiet, without resisting exploitation though they die in the process.

Those who make India’s laws, i.e., Parliament, those who uphold the laws, i.e., the police, the army and the administrative machinery, and those who apply and interpret the law, i.e., the judiciary, all provide daily proofs of the foregoing assertion. Those who have huge property, or those who tread the corridors of power, get advantages at every step, even if they commit crimes. They easily get bail. Their cases are prolonged or rapidly disposed depending on their needs. If by chance a lower court convicts them they are assured of a reversal of the verdict at higher levels. When they have to stay in jails the very shape of the prison changes.

We do not want a single human being to be deprived of their legal rights. But the seeming equality of bourgeois democracy hides gross inequality. The rich get assistance, the poor do not get it. The bail is set so high the Salman Khans can pay it, but the common people cannot. Then there are special laws which are aimed at those who protest, or at particular groups of people.

This was acknowledged most clearly at one point of history, when Mrs. Indira Gandhi had targetted bourgeois oppositionists, applying Maintenance of Internal Security Act or MISA. At that time, Atal Behari Vajpayee had objected, saying, MISA was meant for Naxalites.

Today’s situation is absolutely clear. The Binayak Sens and the Soni Soris get bail after a very long time, across many agitations. A 90% physically disabled Prof. G. N. Saibaba has not been given bail despite a year in custody. One the other hand, our muscular film star Khan Sahib was out on bail the entire 13 years his trial for running over a pavement dweller went on.

Within hours of being found guilty and sentenced, he was again out on bail. J. Jayalalithaa is out, exonerated in the /Disproportionate Assets case. On the same day, in a different court in another part of the country, Chhatradhar Mahato was found guilty under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other laws.

He and his comrades have since been given life terms. Sustained efforts are on, to make people forget why the Lalgarh movement took place.

After all, the duty of the adivasi is to bow their heads and accept it when their land and their forests are taken away from them. An added duty of adivasi women is to smilingly accept being raped. And if they protest, they are Maoists, terrorists, anti-nationals.

And presumably it is Maya Kodnani, found guilty of inciting the Naroda Patiya massacre, who is the ultimate patriot. From Buddhadev Bhattacharjee to Mamata Banerjee, all governmental parties and leaders – it is impossible to distinguish between their roles in such matters when they are in power.

In fact, Chhatradhar Mahato and his comrades had built mass organisations and had taken the path of mass movements. They had even (in our view wrongly) joined forces with Mamata Banerjee and the so-called “civil society” figures that worship at her doors. In that case, if the UAPA is being applied against Chhatradhar, why are they excluded?

Does this not demonstrate how the judicial sysem dispenses class justice? Repeal all Repressive Laws like UAPA, AFSPA Release Chhatradhar mahato and all others convicted in this case

Who owns the Land in the Ukraine ? by Elizabeth Fraser

"The total area of agricultural land in Ukraine, controlled by foreign companies, now more than 2.2 million hectares"

May 14, 2015

The fate of Ukraine's agricultural sector is a cause for alarm. As stated in the report of the Oakland Institute in the last year, more than 1.6 million hectares of Ukrainian lands were under the control of foreign corporations. Further studies will identify the sources and new foreign investment.

Thus, according to some estimates, the total area of agricultural land in Ukraine, controlled by foreign companies, it is now more than 2.2 million hectares. In addition, studies were identified significant "gray areas", where it is difficult to determine who is a landowner and who controls the land.

Foreign companies and the shareholders behind the acquisition of land in Ukraine, scattered around the world. The Danish company Trigon Agri, for example, controls more than 52 000 hectares. This company was founded in 2006 with start-up capital "wealthy people" from Finland. The company is trading in Stockholm (according NASDAQ), and its largest shareholder is the: JPM Chase (United Kingdom, 9.5%); Swedbank (Sweden, 9.4%); UB Securities (Finland, 7.9%); Euroclear Bank (Belgium, 6.6%) and JP Morgan Clearing Corp (United States, 6.2%).

United Farmers Holding Company, which is owned by a group of investors from Saudi Arabia, controls 33,000 hectares of agricultural land in Ukraine through the company Continental Farmers Group PLC.

AgroGeneration, which holds 120,000 hectares of Ukrainian farmland, and is incorporated in France, and 62% of its shares controlled investment company Texas SigmaBleyzer.

American pension fund NCH Capital holds 450,000 hectares. The company began operations in 1993 and now boasting that was one of the first foreign investors in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Over the past decade, the company systematically took in rent small plots of land (ranging from 2 to 6 ha.) Throughout Ukraine, enlarging and then combining them into large farms already operating as industrial production. According to one of the main partners NCH Capital, George Rohr, the lease gives the company the right to buy agricultural land now rented as soon as Ukraine will lift the moratorium on land sales.

The other subgroups such companies Ukrainian leadership - it is often companies with mixed Ukrainian and foreign investment registered, usually in "tax havens" such as Cyprus, Austria and Luxembourg.

For example, UkrLandFarming controls Ukraine's largest land bank - 654 000 ha in total. 95% of the shares are in the hands UkrLandFarming multimillionaire Oleg Bakhmatyuk, and the remaining 5% were recently sold to Cargill. Similarly, Yuri Kosyuk, ranked fifth in the list of the richest Ukrainians, he is the CEO of Mongolia, one of the largest agricultural companies, which holds 360,000 hectares of agricultural land.

Since the beginning of the current political crisis in Ukraine, some of these companies (mainly Ukrainian) also proved crisis-ridden. One such company is registered in Cyprus "Mriya Agro Holding", which controls nearly 300 000 hectares of land. In 2014 the company's website (which is no longer available) contained information that 80% of "Mriya" has a family Guta (citizens of Ukraine), holding major posts in the leadership of the company. The remaining 20% of the shares are registered for the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

According to news agencies, in the summer of 2014, the company defaulted on payments for two large Eurobonds, which calls into question the very future of the company. The company first gained the support of the American Blackstone Group and Ukrainian Dragon Capital, however, only a month, these companies have refused to support the "Mriyu", and after them - and the international company for financial services and audit Deloitte.

Then it convened an international committee of bondholders, which consisted of several American and British investment groups (including CarVal Investors - Investment subsidiary of Cargill), which together own more than 50% of the debt, "Mriya" on Eurobonds (maturing in 2018 th) and 15% of liabilities on Eurobonds maturing in 2016. Thus, the future of the company "Mriya" vague and some sources suggest its imminent bankruptcy.

Another Ukrainian company registered in "tax havens" is also experiencing difficulties. It Sintal Agriculture Public Ltd (registered in Cyprus, conducting trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2008, and controls 150,000 hectares of agricultural land in Ukraine). She stopped share trading January 29, 2014 the first "until further notice" after towards her bankruptcy proceedings were initiated. In 2013, on its website (he, too, does not work) stated that 36.3% of the shares of this company are in free float.

The probability of bankruptcy of corporations and foreign investors involved in the crisis-management raises the question about the future of their control of agricultural land. It is not yet clear how the issue will be decided on the control of these lands, and what will be the role of Western companies and funds that invest in Ukrainian companies bankrupt.

However, based on the experience of neighboring Romania, we can assume that if all will develop in Ukraine for the same scenario, there will be a transition of agricultural land in Ukraine under the control of foreign companies.

In Romania, there was a similar story the dissolution of collective farms, collective land distribution to former collective farmers and the introduction of the moratorium on sale of agricultural land. However, loopholes in the legislation of the country made it possible for foreigners to establish control over land through bankruptcy. As reported, on the basis of documentary evidence, Judith Buñol (the  " concentration of land, looting of the land and the people's struggle in Europe "), the bankruptcy of the national agricultural enterprises paved the way for the establishment of foreign control over agricultural land in Romania.

It is not yet entirely clear whether the Ukraine implemented the same scenario. Nevertheless, Romania gives us a lesson, stressing the importance of attention for all transactions relating to agricultural land. In addition, by itself "muddy" situation of land ownership in Ukraine also raises a number of questions. And probably the most important question is this: can a large concentration of all Ukrainian lands in the hands of a few oligarchs and foreign corporations to the benefit of this country, its people and its economy?

Anti- Semitism by J.V.Stalin (1931)

In answer to your inquiry :

National and racial chauvinism is a vestige of the misanthropic customs characteristic of the period of cannibalism. Anti-semitism, as an extreme form of racial chauvinism, is the most dangerous vestige of cannibalism.

Anti-semitism is of advantage to the exploiters as a lightning conductor that deflects the blows aimed by the working people at capitalism.

Anti-semitism is dangerous for the working people as being a false path that leads them off the right road and lands them in the jungle.

Hence Communists, as consistent internationalists, cannot but be irreconcilable, sworn enemies of anti-semitism.

In the U.S.S.R. anti-semitism is punishable with the utmost severity of the law as a phenomenon deeply hostile to the Soviet system. Under U.S.S.R. law active anti-semites are liable to the death penalty.

IMPORTANT  ARTICLE FROM GROVER FURR ABOUT ANTI SEMITISM

A Lethal Form Of Lying :
Notes on Anti-Semitism and Cold War Scholarship

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

American professor Grover Furr told Ekaterina Blinova that equating the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany and Joseph Stalin to Adolf Hitler, Ukrainian politicians and their Western supporters are trying to cover-up their own shameful history by Ekaterina Blinova

The West is turning a blind eye to the Verkhovna Rada's decision to equate Communism to Nazism, and declare that the infamous Nazi collaborators – the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) – were "fighters for Ukrainian independence."

Law 2558, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on April 9, 2015, stipulates that those who deny "the criminal character of the communist totalitarian regime of 1917-1991 in Ukraine" may face criminal prosecution.

At the same time the Ukrainian parliament proclaimed the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) "fighters for Ukrainian independence," and restricted questioning the legitimacy of their actions during the Second World War.

Curiously enough, the majority of Western leaders have not rushed to condemn Kiev's initiative with the exception of a few prominent scholars and experts, who expressed their deep concerns regarding honoring the notorious Nazi collaborators.

And it is hardly surprising, deems Professor Grover Carr Furr, a prominent American historian, author and expert in Soviet history.

"This is nothing new. The United States permitted Ukrainian fascists to flee the Red Army to the USA, Canada, and elsewhere [after the Second World War]. The US CIA funded Ukrainian Nationalist research groups, newspapers, and of course spies," the professor told Sputnik.

"In short, the USA (and Canada, in an even larger way) spent a lot of money supporting Ukrainian fascists after 1945. When the USSR broke up the US began to get its money's worth. The Ukrainian nationalists – the OUN, former UPA, and so on – flooded back to Ukraine after 1991. They soon captured the universities and education generally," Professor Furr noted.

The historian emphasized that the post-war claims of the OUN-UPA to have fought Nazi Germany have collapsed under careful scrutiny.

"Some scholars have looked for evidence that the OUN-UPA fought the Germans, but can't find any. And the Nazis let [Stepan] Bandera and [Roman] Shukhevich out of prison in 1944 [and 1943, respectively] in order to enlist them to fight the Red Army. If the OUN-UPA had been fighting the Germans, they'd have been shot, not released," the professor remarked.

The OUN and its UPA military wing were behind the massacre of about 100,000 Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia, the Khatyn mass murder in Belarus and involved in the hideous Holocaust cleansing.

"The Ukrainian OUN-UPA fighters were Nazi collaborators and fascist murderers. They deserve zero respect," Professor Grover Furr stated.

However, "Mykola Lebed [who was responsible for the murder of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia] lived in Queens, New York, until the 1990s, totally supported by the CIA or State Department. Why would the US change its policies now?" Professor Grover C. Furr noted with a bitter irony.

The new Kiev legislation is not the first attempt aimed at equating Communism and Nazism: pro-nationalist Ukrainian scholars have been systematically spreading myths of the Soviet crimes against Ukrainians since the end of the Second World War. One of these well-known attempts to rewrite Soviet history is a "Holodomor" hoax.

"In 1987 the film "Harvest of Despair" was made. It was the beginning of the ‘Holodomor’ hoax. The film was entirely funded by Ukrainian Nationalists, mainly in Canada. A Canadian scholar, Douglas Tottle, exposed the fact that the film took photographs from the 1921-22 ‘Volga famine’ and used them to illustrate the 1932-33 famine. Tottle later wrote a book, ‘Fraud, Famine, and Fascism: The Ukrainian Genocide Myth from Hitler to Harvard,’ about the phony ‘Holodomor’ issue," Professor Grover Furr told Sputnik.

Furthermore, American professor Mark B. Tauger has done ground breaking research on the Famine of 1932-33, and come to the conclusion that the disaster was due to environmental circumstances at the time and was not related to the Soviet policy in the region, Professor Furr emphasized.

Warsaw, which surprisingly failed to blast Kiev for its initiative to honor the OUN-UPA insurgents, is also supporting Ukraine's anti-Soviet sentiment.

Warsaw has got its own skeletons in the closet: for instance, blasting the Soviet government for the Katyn massacre, Polish historians remain silent about the fate of 18,000 – 60,000 Red Army soldiers who died in Polish captivity in 1920s. "There is good documentation that they [the Soviet POWs] were treated brutally, starved, frozen, and many of them murdered outright," Grover C. Furr pointed out.

Slamming the USSR for the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression treaty, signed in 1939, Polish scholars apparently forgot that Poland's First Marshall Jozef Pilsudski concluded the German-Polish Pact with Hitler five years earlier, in January 1934. While in 1938, Poland took part in the infamous partition of Czechoslovakia together with Nazi Germany.

"Then there are all the crimes of the Polish underground, the Armia Krajowa, and the post-war Polish underground. The AK collaborated with the Nazis, for example. They continued to murder Jews and communists, mainly Poles, after the war for years," the professor underscored.

"The only way to cover up as much of this shameful history as possible, and rationalize the rest of it, is to claim that the USSR was "just as bad as" the Nazis," Grover C. Furr elaborated.

Meanwhile in 2010, another American scholar Timothy Snyder published a study, translated into more than 25 languages, in which he blatantly equated the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany. In response, Grover C. Furr wrote his book "Blood Lies," debunking a series of widespread myths about the USSR and exposing an astonishing lack of evidence for many of anti-Russia accusations presented by Professor Snyder.

By rewriting the history of the Second World War, downplaying the significance of the Soviet Union's role in defeating Nazi Germany and manipulating the Soviet past, the West is targeting today's Russia.

USA: Mumia Hospitalized Dateline 13th May 2015

Mumia Hospitalized Dateline May 13th 2015: Philadelphia, PA

A SCI Mahanoy prison nurse called Wadiya Jamal Mumia's wife at 8:50 pm last night May 12th and told her that Mumia had been moved to the hospital. This is cause for grave concern. He had a fever and open wounds on his legs. HIs attorney Bret Grote visited him on Friday. He was engaged, alert, yet he in pain.

His hospital conditions will be abhorrent: he will be chained to the bed. He could, as they did before, be arbitrarily and systematically denied visitors.

Clearly Mumia's chronic conditions remain undiagnosed and unsuccessfully treated. Mumia was given a skin biopsy on Monday of this week, and had been in the infirmary following that procedure.
Mumia's legal team of Bret Grote of the Abolitionist Law Center, has added attorney Bob Boyle. Mumia's doctor has been speaking directly with Mumia, even though the time he has been allowed for the phone in the infirmary was limited. There is no phone at the hospital. Mumia's expert medical team has been advising Mumia on the tests and the medications that have been done. This advice has been critical, and is now not possible.

As we noted in our last update oversight and close monitoring of any tests, especially the diagnostic tests are crucial. We are clear that Inadequate testing, delays, and any deviation from the medically necessary course of treatment, will be challenged.

Obtaining a diagnosis is of paramount importance at this moment.

Mumia remains seriously ill. Public pressure is extremely important. Please keep up the calls, emails and faxes. Demand that (1) Adequate diagnostic testing be done (2) That Mumia's doctor is able to communicate freely and regularly with the prison infirmary physicians who are delivering Mumia's medical care (3) His doctor has meaningful and regular phone access with Mumia. (There are no phones in the hospital, in the infirmary, his calls are limited to 15 mins and he has limited access to the phone) (4) Allow Mumia's chosen doctor to conduct an onsite medical examination. And as many have said, it is past time for Mumia to be released from prison.
