VICTORY TO THE LIBYAN PEOPLE BY REVOLUTIONARY PRAXIS

The people of Libya have risen in armed struggle against the repressive, fascistic Gaddafi regime. They had no choice because Gaddafi simply murdered peaceful protestors. So far, Libya is the only Arab country where the people have taken up arms against an oppressive dictatorship. The Libyans are pointing the way forward for the people in other countries such as Syria and Yemen.

ROLE OF NATO IMPERIALISM

Most leftists in Britain are critical of and even condemn the Libyan rebels because they are receiving help from the NATO imperialists such as America and Britain. But without NATO air strikes all the rebels would be dead. It is true that NATO’s intervention is to further their own interests by trying to set up a post-Gaddafi regime favourable to Western multinational oil companies.

None the less, there are occasions when my enemy’s enemy can be my friend. For different reasons both the Libyan rebels and NATO want to get rid of Gaddafi. It is a similar situation to the one in Kosovo in 1999 when the Kosovar Albanians were being driven from their homeland by the reactionary Serbian Milosovic regime. Just as the leftists in Britain were wrong to condemn the Kosovar Albanians for accepting NATO support then so they are wrong for attacking the Libyan rebels for the same reason. If NATO supplies arms to the rebels this will be a good thing because it helps the Libyans in their struggle against the Gaddafi dictatorship.

LIBYAN OPPOSITION LEADERSHIP

Of course, there are opportunist defectors from Gaddafi and pro-imperialist elements in the Libyan Interim National Council. Revolutions are a messy business and it remains to be seen what will be the political character of any post-Gaddafi regime, pro or anti-imperialist. It is the task of the Libyan people to determine the nature of any new political system.

In the mean time we should do what we can to support the Libyan rebels and not condemn them as does the Stop the War Coalition. Given the pathetic state of leftist organisations in Britain there is little other than verbal support we can offer.

FIGHT WITH THE REBELS!

One thing that can be done is to call for international volunteers to go to Libya to fight alongside the rebels. Such people need to be ones with military training, as opposed to paper-selling skills. There are few such people in Britain but there are many in other countries where compulsory military service still exists or did so until recently. Also medical personnel and supplies are needed in the rebel-held areas. If an international contingent could be formed to fight in support of the Libyan rebels then this would lessen the possibility of the opposition being subverted into a tool of imperialism.

DOWN WITH THE GADDAFI REGIME!

SUPPORT THE LIBYAN REBELS!

VICTORY TO THE LIBYAN PEOPLE!

Sure... This statement is going too much far, and is completly idealistic. For them, only sending international volunteers would change the nature of the rebel leadership, which is completly proimperialist and former qaddafist changing their colors, and the nature of the uprising which has, sadly, no real ideology (even national-bourgeois, Muslim Brothers style...) and project. Sadly the Libyan uprising is just a spontaneous struggle, on tribal basis, to avenge the first demonstrators (peaceful) shot down...
