Nepali Maoists capture acres of land across the country

The Unified CPN (Maoist) has captured hundreds of acres of land belonging to various individuals across the country on Tuesday using its sister organisations, reports say.

According to Kantipur daily, Maoist cadres captured about 3000 Ropanis of land in Tanahun, 450 Ropanis in Kavre, 200 Ropanis in Palpa, over 1000 Ropanis in Bara and about 100 Ropanis in Nawalparasi, by hoisting their party flag.

They have issued threats to the landowners not to sell or use the land. They have said, the land will be distributed to landless persons. Large number of Maoist cadres affiliated to unions of farmers and squatters had flocked to hoist their party flags in the seized lands.

Most of the captured land plots belong to leaders of other political parties including Nepali Congress and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

The seized land in Nawalparasi belonged to late Surya Bhakta Adhikari, while that in Kavre belongs to RPP leader Pashupati Shumsher Rana and his relatives.

Nepali Congress has condemned the seizure saying it is a serious of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
