“Start preparing for the collapse of Saudi Kingdom” The American Defense One report authored by Sarah Chayes

The American Defense One website published on Tuesday a report entitled

“Start preparing for the collapse of Saudi kingdom” in which the authors asked the US administration to be ready to the next stage that will witness the fall of the Al-Saud regime.

The report, authored by Sarah Chayes — former Chancellor of the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and participant in Carnegie Foundation — and Alex de Waal — researcher, academic and an expert on Arab and African Affairs — revealed that the decision-makers in Washington have already begun planning for the stage of the Saudi Kingdom collapse.

The report argued that Saudi Arabia is not a real state, but rather “a political enterprise with a clever but ultimately unsustainable business model, as if the Saudi king is CEO of a family business that converts oil into payoffs that buy political loyalty.

They take two forms: cash handouts or commercial concessions for the increasingly numerous scions of the royal clan, and a modicum of public goods and employment opportunities for commoners.”

Regarding the second form of buying political loyalties, the report by Defense One – known for its close relations with the US Defense Department, indicated a “highly educated Sunni majority, with unprecedented exposure to the outside world, is unlikely to stay satisfied forever with a few favors doled out by geriatric rulers impervious to their input.”

The authors asked what if “the price of political loyalty” rises, where the political market functions according to demand as well as supply, particularly when such fears accompany an expanded oil production in the face of such low prices, which may reflect an urgent need for revenue as well as other strategic imperatives.

The oil policy, which was adopted in Riyadh in the past months, unfolds the inability of the Saudi regime to continue with the game, which means that the Saudis have approved to determine the export quantity, the report concluded.

KURDS WARN TURKEY OF BIG WAR WITH RUSSIA IF TURKISH TROOPS ENTER SYRIA

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks claim responsibility for Ankara bombing

The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), a Kurdish militant group, has claimed responsibility for the Ankara bombing that killed 28 people this week, according to its website. It said the attack was in retaliation for Ankara’s military operation in Turkey's southeast.

The TAK, which is a splinter group of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), vowed to continue its attacks.

The militant group claimed in the statement published on Friday that the Ankara blast was carried out to avenge the“defenseless and wounded civilians brutally massacred in basements in Cizre.”

“Everyone should know that those who ordered the massacre of civilians were responsible for the Ankara incident.”

TAK in December 2015, announced that they are not dependent on PKK, which they see as an organization that they criticize as too humanist.

Turkish Irregular Forces enter Syria plus Turkish Regular Forces dig in inside Afrin Syria

Dozens of Turkish military vehicles have crossed the Syrian border a Kurdish news agency reported adding that the troops started to dig a trench near Meidan Ekbis, a town in Aleppo province.Turkish vehicles cross Syria border

Dozens of Turkish military vehicles advanced 200 meters into the Syrian Kurdish region in Aleppo province on Thursday, ANHA news agency reported.

It added that the troops started digging a trench between the towns of Sorka and Meydan Ekbis. According to the agency the construction of a concrete wall on the Syrian border in the area is ongoing as well.

The Syrian Afrin district bordering Turkey is predominantly Kurdish with a population estimated to be of more than 170,000 people according to a 2004 census. The area is part of a de facto autonomous region of Rojava, or Syrian Kurdistan since 2013.

Turkish vehicles cross Syria border - A Turkish security source told Reuters that they country’s military shelled Kurdish YPG forces positions in northern Syria on Thursday.

Turkish military has been intensely shelling Syrian Kurds despite UN Security Council (UNSC) warning on Tuesday which urged Ankara to comply with international law.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry has recently released images and satellite intelligence proving the illegal oil supplies are being delivered across the Turkish-Syrian border on three main routes leading to Mediterranean ports, Batman oil refinery on the Turkish territory and a large transfer base in Turkey’s Cizre, respectively. Russia said that those oil supplies widely benefit Turkish President Recep closest relatives and help funding ISIL Takfiri militants in Syria.

India : Defend Umar Khalid - he is no Jihadi he is a Comrade

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to portray Rohith Vemula anti-national; but today he has become an icon for all those fighting against social and systemic oppression.

Since Rohith's death, the BJP has been looking for a way to exorcise the Dalit scholar's ghost. They have been looking for the perfect 'anti-Rohith Vemula', one who would not only divert attention from Rohith, but also delegitimise student activism across the country.

Last week, they picked up Kanhaiya Kumar, president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) and charged him with sedition. "We arrested a Bhumihar from Bihar, now you can't call us anti-Dalit," a RSS functionary boasted, while speaking to Catch.

But even that backfired. Kumar's humble background and his fiery speeches, which are nationalistic in their own way, made it difficult to project him as a traitor. The fact that he belongs to the student wing of a mainstream Communist Party India (CPI), also helped his case.

Not just the Left, other Opposition parties such as the Congress, Janata Dal (United), Bahujan Samaj Party and Aam Aadmi Party came out in his support.

Instead of the anti-national BJP was looking for, Kanhaiya has become another symbol of opposition against the Narendra Modi government.

The Modi regime has finally found its prey - Umar Khalid. A member of the now dissolved Democratic Students' Union (DSU), he was one of the organisers of the controversial event on 9 February. "Anti-national" slogans were chanted in the protests that followed the cancellation of the event.

'Jihadi' to the rescue

Umar suits the BJP's brief perfectly. He has the right name -- a name around which various conspiracy theories involving Pakistan-based Jihadi organisations, the Inter-services Intelligence and Kashmiri separatists can be woven, with a few critical keywords like 'indoctrination', 'infiltration' and ' sleeper cells' thrown in.

By Monday, it was clear that arresting Kanhaiya had backfired on Delhi Police and the BJP. If pressure from Opposition parties wasn't bad enough, BJP MLA OP Sharma and his goons engaged in mob vigilantism outside the Patiala House court, attacking JNU students, teachers and even the media.

So, it was hardly surprising that on Tuesday, the hyper-nationalist sections of the media, who miraculously managed to escape Sharma's attack, turned their focus on Umar. NewsX alleged, on the basis of an anonymous Intelligence Bureau input, that Umar is a sympathiser of the Jaish-e-Muhammad. The channel alleged that he was the mastermind behind the entire protest and that he had facilitated the "infiltration of Kashmiri men into the JNU campus".

The channel ignored the names of all other organisers.

The IB report quoted by the news channel also claimed that Umar had visited Pakistan some years ago. The police are on the lookout for Umar and they "raided" his house on Tuesday.
As a result of these reports, Umar's family have been facing death threats. Even his mother and 12-year-old sister were threatened.

ABVP supporters have put up posters across Delhi, exhorting people to "catch this traitor".
Even a brief look at the discussions on the social media would reveal how a section of the people are baying for Umar's blood.

What does Umar Khalid actually stand for?

1. "Umar Khalid is a communist. As communist as it gets in JNU.

2. He is no Muslim, except by birth. Like all true communists, he doesn't believe in any power superior to human beings.

3. Umar is no supporter of Pakistan. The State is just an organ of class rule to his communist eyes. And the conflict between India and Pakistan just a red herring in both countries, to confuse the people," writes one of Umar's friends on Facebook.

DSU, of which Umar was a part, claimed to be a progressive organisation that upheld Maoism. In November last year, DSU dissolved when Umar and 10 others resigned from the organisation. The reason they gave was that "the perspectives upheld by the revolutionary movement on gender are feudal, moralist and reactionary, albeit being couched in Marxist jargon".

Here's an article they wrote last month titled 'Revolutionary Sexism - a critique of Indian Maoism' that explained their position. Click to read.

From what one can gather, Umar isn't very different from Rohith in his beliefs. Perhaps on issues such as Kashmir, Rohith and Umar have much more in common than Kanhaiya.

Now, even if Umar wasn't a communist but a practising Muslim, it wouldn't make him any more or less of a terrorist.

But because of the media, a nationwide lynch mob has gathered against Umar. Even if he is acquitted, it is unlikely that he would ever have a normal life. It was this desire for a normal life that came across vividly in Rohith's letters. But normalcy is what he was deprived of in life as well as in death.

Umar's friends' say that his life is being destroyed almost the same way as Rohith's was destroyed after he was labelled 'anti-national'.

"AFTER ROHITH, YOU HAVE ALMOST DESTROYED ANOTHER LIFE. YOU MADE SURE THERE WILL BE NO 'NORMAL' LEFT TO RETURN TO FOR THE DISSENTER YOU HAD MARKED AND WHOM YOU NOW HOUND & HUNT. BUT YOUR BIGGEST CRIME IS THIS: YOU USED THE TOTALITARIAN POWER OF TV TO KILL UMAR BY ERASING EVERYTHING HE STOOD FOR & MANUFACTURED A MONSTER FOR THE IGNORANT & AT-YOUR-MERCY 'COLLECTIVE CONSCIENCE,' his friend writes on Facebook.

Questions

Even if Umar did visit Pakistan years ago, how does that constitute as evidence of his terrorist links? Pro-RSS journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik not only went to Pakistan, he even met Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed. No one called him a traitor. Perhaps because his name isn't Umar Khalid.

Would a small event like the one that was organised in JNU be planned years ago and merit a full-fledged visit to Pakistan?

By the way, Umar doesn't even have a passport. So the question of visiting Pakistan doesn't really arise.

Why is there so much emphasis on "infiltration of Kashmiri men" into the campus? If the channel considers Kashmir to be an integral part of India, why should it be cause of concern if a few Kashmiri men visit the campus of a central university?

Students at the Jadavpur University shouted similar pro-Azadi slogans on Tuesday, during their protest against Kanhaiya's arrest. So if such a protest can be organised at such a short notice, why would a JNU protest needed an elaborate conspiracy, involving 'Pakistani handlers' and Kashmiri 'infiltrators'?

The Jihadi link to the JNU event was far-fetched to begin with. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that the protest was supported by Lashkar-e-Tayyeba. If Singh and the IB input cited by NewsX are both correct then it would mean that the JNU protest was a fantastic collaborative effort between Lashkar-e-Tayyeba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Indian Maoists and Kashmiri separatists.

In fact BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan has alleged that even Malayali separatists were part of the event.

The complete absurdity of Singh's claims was exposed when it came to light that it was based on a tweet from a fake Hafiz Saeed Twitter handle. How can that be explained?

The Red Line Area is target area of  Turkish Invasion

Thursday, February 18, 2016

Turkey : Casus belli is a Latin expression meaning "an act or event that provokes or is used to justify war" (literally, "a case for war").

Democracy and Class Struggle says Turkey is planning to enter thirty kilometers into Northern Syria to attack YPG - bombings have been continuous against YPG for last few days therefore the bombing in Istanbul is being used as a Casus Belli.

If  Turkey enter this territory with Turkish Second Army into Northern Syria then full scale regional war is likely outcome with Operation Northern Thunder moving from exercise at the moment to full scale invasion of Syria from South.

Some military analysts see this happening by 1st March 2016. The situation is very dangerous and it is not possible to validate what the military analysts predict - other than to stress how dangerous the situation is.

India: Jadavpur University Protesters Hold Off ABVP Clash, Police Impose Section 144

Almost a thousand students marched on the Jadavpur University campus today, condemning Hindutva crackdown at JNU and the arrest of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been sentenced to judicial custody for 14 days. The students marched across the campus and built a barricade led by JU professors at Gate No. 4,  where ABVP activists were supposed to arrive as per the threat issued to the protesting students yesterday by the National Secretary of BJP.

Anticipating a clash, police formed a barricade in front of the students, and imposed Section 144 on the area. An ABVP contingent of 300 arrived, armed with sticks and rods to beat up the students, who they labelled “Deshdronhi” (Traitor) and wanted to be hanged.  They carried Indian flags, chanted Vande Mataram and played the Gayatri mantra on speaker. The ABVP activists then clashed with the police, where a scuffle ensued and one ABVP activist assaulted a police officer.

A Congress rally parallely arrived around noon to support the protesting students. ABVP was quick to label them deshdrohi as well, which is when Congress activists hurled sticks at ABVP. Confronted by the barricade built by the students and professors of JU, ABVP was forced to return but not before they stated that they had full faith that the state government would take action against the “anti-nationals”.

“We are standing at a juncture where leftists are being witch hunted and put in jail . In the face of utter violence that destroys democracy, the Left which has been divided by differences and debates has finally found a common ground in resisting this fascist counter revolution of the state. This united resistance is revolutionary because a rally sanctioned by the state could not overthrow the movement today. The Left finally found common ground as SFI, AISA activists, anarcha feminists and anarcha communists showed up to signal to the state that this violation of democracy will not be tolerated. It is a signal of the coming times to come, both in terms of the state and the Left”, said Nabottama Pal, an activist of the feminist group Periods.

Sampriti Mukherjee, an activist of AISA added, “The success of today’s unity was a remarkable feat for the beginning of a Leftist movement in future. The clamping down of student voices across campuses in India, charging them with sedition, is an attack on freedom of speech and Leftist identity. While the Hindutva groups are calling all Communists traitors, the Left is uniting with bravery: this is a big step for future revolution.”

ABVP also lodged a PIL against those students and professors who participated in today’s rally, demanding that the court take action. The BJP rally which was supposed to arrive at JU at 4pm was cancelled due to the imposition of Section 144 in the area.

India : Release Prof.SAR GEELANI Release KANHAIYA KUMAR Committee for Release of Political prisoners

COMMITTEE FOR THE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS
185/3, FOURTH FLOOR, ZAKIR NAGAR, NEW DELHI-110025

17 February 2016

RELEASE PROF. SAR GEELANI

IMMEDIATELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY!

RELEASE KANHAIYA KUMAR, JNUSU PRESIDENT

IMMEDIATELY & UNCONDITIONALLY!

STOP CRIMINALIZING DISSENT!

STOP HARASSING ACTIVISTS, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS OF JNU AND DU UNDER THE GARB OF FIGHTING TERROR!

WITHDRAW THE FIR WITH UNNAMED STUDENTS CHARGING THEM OF SEDITION!
SCRAP THE ANTI-PEOPLE SEDITION LAW!

Ever since the event in JNU on the 9 February as well as the programme at the Press Club, Delhi, on 10 February 2016 remembering Afzal Guru’s hanging as a travesty of justice, the media is abuzz with narratives of conspiracy and anti-national activity attributed to the organizers and participants of the programme.

The Delhi Police has arrested and booked JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar under sections 124A (Sedition), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and unlawful Assembly while the newly appointed Vice Chancellor has handed over a list of names of students with which the police has went round every hostel in the campus searching for ’suspects’.

It’s intriguing that how an FIR has been filed charging sedition on ‘unknown persons’ and that being used as a convenient tool to harass every student in the campus. The police custody of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar has been further extended. On the 15 February CRPP President and Delhi University Professor SAR Geelani was detained around 8.30 pm when he was coming out of his college after classes.

Prof. SAR Geelani also has been charged under 124 A, 149 and 120 B IPC for organizing a meeting at the Press Club to commemorate the hanging of Afzal Guru as a travesty of justice. Prof. Geelani was sent to 2 days police custody when he was produced in the court on Tuesday amid heavy police presence in the court with no one—not even the family members—except the lawyers being allowed to be present at the court.

The fundamental question that should be addressed dispassionately is that whether a democracy can take refuge in an archaic colonial law like the Sedition Act to strangulate itself. The duplicity of the present BJP dispensation is further evident as it is the same Macaulay who they blame for all the ills of the erosion of Indian culture who enacted this anti-people law to stifle the anti-colonial resistance. No civilized world that vouches its credentials on respect for the others’ opinion can sustain itself by using such a draconian law as the harbinger of law and order and then claim at the same time to be the largest democracy.

But then why is the Narendra Modi government and the RSS persistent on taking refuge in such penalizing draconian instruments to push their politics?

It is true that the protests inside and outside campuses from students and various sections of the people have increased after the initial hype and hubris of the present government amidst the gradual realization of the people that there is little on the table for Narendra Modi led government to offer to the impoverished peasantry and the toiling masses as succour in an ocean of misery and despair.

Apart from the selfies and the glitz of the media events there is little happening on the ground. The protests in the universities have by and large reflected these sentiments of the vast sections of the people along with the distraught condition of higher education in the subcontinent. It is this growing opinion among the educated and the opinionated, a gradual losing of the ‘battle for the hearts and minds’ that have pushed the present beleaguered government into a knee jerk reaction to an otherwise routine event in JNU where the students have the tradition of democratically articulating opposing views not only as essential theoretical exercises in their sociology and political studies tutorials but also as events outside the classrooms which discusses every issue of significance to the student as well as the society in general.

It is this slice of the liberal fabric that JNU inculcates to make its students understand and internalize the essential sensibility of what it means to be in a democracy that is being attacked. In a democracy the strength and meaning of the nature of the democracy that we talk about and claim to be is measured by the level of dissent it encourages and protects as a fundamental necessity to ensure the democratic fabric of the society.

A Rohit Vemula was holding up this candle of liberal thinking and fearless criticism when he and his friends tried to host the event highlighting the miseries of the people (mostly Muslims) affected by the horrors of organized violence against them in Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh as part of the build up towards polarizing votes on communal lines before the parliament elections in 2014.

Grand fairy tale narratives of alleged anti-India elements from across the border directly congratulating and facilitating the event in Jawaharlal Nehru University to a solid blanket portrayal of one of the best academic institutions in the subcontinent as well as Asia as synonymous to being anti-national have made it amply clear the larger designs behind this deliberate hyperbole.

This is ample evidence of how much the hyperbole of jingoism indulged in by the Home Ministry, HRD Ministry and the RSS ably parodied by certain motivated sections of the media have breached every limit of reason and moderation.

In fact the vitriolic nature of the media trial indulged in by a section of the media is so pervertedly infectious that the Delhi Police Chief has almost justified the premeditated violence on journalists, activists, students and teachers of JNU at the Patiala house court complex on the 15 February by a few ‘lawyers’ led by the BJP MLA OP Sharma as a “minor scrap” and “a fall-out of an emotive issue”.

The Delhi Police Chief’s tacit endorsement has further smartened the BJP MLA that he is brazen about how roguish he had been since his childhood further warning that he will not shy away from repeating the act.

That the present BJP government at the centre which is ready to share power in Kashmir with the PDP—who terms the killing of Afzal Guru as a travesty of justice—at the same time would dub any programme expressing the same sentiment in Delhi as anti-national shows only the duplicity of the variant of nationalism that it purportedly and shamelessly promotes.

Now that all the grand narratives are crumbling and the actual motive of a certain pathologically aggressive behavior of the Narendra Modi government is being interrogated by the discerning mind, we need to dig deeper into a larger design that can be traced to the entire length and breadth of the subcontinent.

Of a sinister design to stifle every voice of dissent as anti-national. To dub any opinion or person or community or group holding a different view point—other than the BJP and RSS and all its affiliates—as anti-national and whip up jingoism to promote lawlessness and anarchy thus paving the way for the militarization of the mind and then the society that will find all remedies for the ills that it faces in instruments of retribution and hate.

Alternately, and quite significantly, this is also the path that the “Make in India” campaign and the total surrender of the Indian economy to global and local capital also badly needs. A near total disrespect and disregard for law and procedures and complete erosion of the accountability and credibility of all the institutions that are supposed to safeguard the interests of the vast sections of the masses. The above mentioned duplicity of the BJP can only be understood when we look deeper into the urges and the necessities that the global capital and its local counterparts want the present dispensation to do.

As we have been maintaining in our previous statements we are on the road to a more garrisoned state and government with strong penal instruments and fascistic designs to open up unfettered exploitation of the people of the subcontinent and the other resources of the region. The Macaulays are back under the garb of a pseudo-nationalist anti-people government.

The CRPP calls upon all the democratic people, organizations, intellectuals, lawyers, students and teachers to stand united and resist such attempts at fascisation of the society by silencing all voices of dissent in the name of fighting terror and anti-nationalism.

We demand the unconditional release of CRPP President Prof. SAR Geelani, JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar. We demand that the reign of terror unleashed by the police be immediately stopped. Remove the deployment of heavy security on JNU campus. We demand that the harassment of teachers and intellectuals who attended the Press Club event should stop.

That many of the participants have been kept in the parliament police station for hours together for just participating in the public event in the Press Club only shows the level of desperation of a government that does not have anything to show before the people.

We condemn the brazen attack on the students, teachers and journalists at the Patiala House court complex by a group of vigilantes led by the BJP MLA OP Sharma and demand that the licences of the so-called lawyers who indulged in this barbaric act be withdrawn and OP Sharma be booked.
