Lewis Henry Morgan

According to Herbert Marshall Lloyd, an attorney and editor of Lewis Henry Morgan's works, Lewis was descended from James Morgan, brother of Miles, who were Welsh pioneers of Connecticut and Springfield, Massachusetts, respectively. Various sources record that the three sons of William Morgan of Llandaff, Glamorganshire, took passage for Boston in 1636. From there Miles went to Springfield, James to New London, Connecticut and John Morgan to Virginia. Lloyd writes, "From these two brothers [James and Miles] all the Morgans prominent in the annals of New York and New England are believed to be descended." The Morgans to which he refers played a critical part in the foundation of the colonies. During the American Revolutionary War, they were Continentals. Immediately after the war, the Connecticut line, along with many other land-hungry Yankees, migrated into New York State. Following the United States' victory against the British, the new government forced the latter's Iroquois allies to cede most of their traditional lands in New York and Pennsylvania to the US. New York made 5 million of acres available for public sale. In addition, the US government granted some plots in western New York to Revolutionary veterans as compensation for their service in the war.

"They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind." -Tuscarora Tribe

“No soldiers, no gendarmes or police, no nobles, kings, regents, prefects, or judges, no prisons, no lawsuits - and everything takes its orderly course. All quarrels and disputes are settled by the whole of the community affected, by the gens or the tribe, or by the gentes among themselves; only as an extreme and exceptional measure is blood revenge threatened-and our capital punishment is nothing but blood revenge in a civilized form, with all the advantages and drawbacks of civilization.

Although there were many more matters to be settled in common than today - the household is maintained by a number of families in common, and is communistic, the land belongs to the tribe, only the small gardens are allotted provisionally to the households - yet there is no need for even a trace of our complicated administrative apparatus with all its ramifications. The decisions are taken by those concerned, and in most cases everything has been already settled by the custom of centuries.

There cannot be any poor or needy - the communal household and the gens know their responsibilities towards the old, the sick, and those disabled in war. All are equal and free - the women included. There is no place yet for slaves, nor, as a rule, for the subjugation of other tribes.”

Friedrich Engels, The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State

PUNJAB: OPPOSE POLICE ASSAULT ON PROTEST OF BKU UGRAHAN AND SUPPORT HEROIC RESISTANCE BY PEASANTRY ALL OVER PUNJAB LED BY BKU UGRAHAN BY HARSH THAKOR

Yesterday the Punjab police in early morning foiled the 50th day of the protest of the landed peasantry led by BKU-Ugrahan.

At around 5 in the morning they broke through the peasant's houses.

The peasantry in retaliation launched heroic jams on roads in surrounding villages in Malwa district. An atmosphere was created of a torrent emerging with anger rising like a burning flame in the hearts of the peasntry.Inspite of protracted agitation the govt has been apathetic and not conceded to a single demand.

On top of it the police displayed their wrath by foiling the agitation. It was a spectacle witnessing the counter-resistance of the peasantry depicting the spirit of an army.,swarming the roads like bees. Their voice reverberated all over the state. Tribune News Service

Bathinda, July 12 The protest of farmers that entered 50th day today has stopped, at least for some days, without any panel meeting or fulfillment of their demands. After their long agitation that was held round the clock in front of the District Administrative Complex, now, the farmers have decided to return to their homes. Farmers from various areas of the state were supposed to reach here to join the ongoing protest. However, they were stopped at many places.

With the authorities paying no heed to their demands and agitation, they had again, for the third time, dropped their protest against the government in which thousands of farmers took part.

Earlier in January this year, they had announced to gherao Badal village, the native village of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, twice over the demand of compensation for the damaged cotton crop and other demands.

Earlier, farmers planned to launch an agitation in Badal village on January 10, but cancelled it due to poor monsoon predictions. Later, they announced to stage a three-day protest in Badal village from January 22.

They staged a three-day protest from January 22 to 25, but While trying to gherao Badal village, they were not allowed by the police to cross Raike Kalan village in Bathinda, which is 3 km from Badal village of Muktsar district. However, farmers dropped their decision to protest in Badal village after being assured of a panel meeting with the Chief Minister within a week.

For 50 days, farmers from various districts of the Malwa region continued their protest in front of the District Administrative Complex. Various artistes, including theatre artistes and dhadhi jathas, had also performed here in their support. Besides, singer Jagsir Jeeda also supported them through his songs on farming.

Now, all farmer unions had decided to stage a protest jointly on July 27, 28 and 29 at the district-level across the state.

Farmers are demanding a re-survey of suicide cases in the state from 1990 by state-level universities. The BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) claimed that government universities had left a number of suicide cases unreported. The union claimed that in 2006, it had conducted its own survey from 1991-2006 in 300 villages of the Malwa region and found 3,300 suicide cases. It conducted a survey again in 400 villages of Malwa, including Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, Barnala, Moga, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka and Ludhiana districts, and found 6,000 suicide cases related to debt.

Earlier, the government had disbursed about Rs 20.26 crore as compensation among families of about 1,013 farmers who committed suicide till 2011. The compensation was based on a survey report conducted by three state-run universities in the past but later, farmers condemned the survey and demanded to conduct the survey again as they claimed that hundreds of suicides had not been covered in it.

Shingara Singh Mann, Bathinda president of the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) said: “Earlier, we decided not to end the agitation until our demands were met but now, we had decided to halt our agitation here. A district-level farmers’ protest would be held from July 27 to 29.

The authorities have failed to pay heed to our demands while today, the police, a puppet in the hands of government, had not allowed us to stage a state-level protest peacefully, which we feel is unconstitutional.”

Lok Janshakti Party state president Kiranjit Singh Gehri criticised the police action preventing farmers from staging the state-level protest over their demands.

He said: “Our constitution provides us the right to gather and stage protest or take out protest march peacefully but farmers who are agitating peacefully for the past many days were not allowed to stage a state-level protest despite they had announced to wind up their protest in Bathinda on Tuesday.”
The Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha that includes the Democratic Teachers Front, ETT Teachers Union, SSA – RMSA teacher Union and BEd Teacher Front also criticised the thrashing of farmers in Bathinda today, who wanted to stage a state-level protest.

Farmers are demanding a solution to the stray cattle problem, Rs 40,000 as compensation for the damaged wheat crop due to fire as a few farmers whose crop was burnt had committed suicide reportedly, round-the-clock electricity supply ahead of paddy season; quashing of false cases against the protesting farmers and compensation to those injured or dead during farmer agitations. They also demanded implementation of the Swaminathan report as farming is becoming a non-profitable profession.

They are also demanding waiving of debt of farmers and farm labourers who are unable to pay their loans; paying of compensation of Rs 5 lakh each immediately to suicide victim families; survey of suicides from 1990 onwards; release of motor connections to farmers on government expenses; full compensation of Rs 40,000 to farmers who faced damage to the cotton crop following the whitefly attack and making laws in favour of them instead of corporate houses or arhtiyas.

Bathinda, July 12 Over 200 farmers in Bathinda district were rounded up and later released by the police today. These farmers were on their way to Bathinda city to join an agitation that entered its 50th day today in front of the district administrative complex. Farmers alleged that the police resorted to lathi-charge, leaving several farmers injured. The police denied the charge.

In Rampura block, farmers planned to gather at a local gurdwara to march together towards the protest site in the city, but after being prevented by the police to do so, they blocked the main Chandigarh-Bathinda road from 1 pm to 5.30 pm.

Similarly, farmers held protests on the Moga-Barnala road near Pakho Kainchiyan, Sangrur-Talwani road, Bibiwanla Chowk and Goniana road against the police and administration for not allowing them to stage a peaceful, collective protest in Bathinda.

Shingara Singh Mann, president of the BKU Ugraha, Bathinda, said, “Several farmers suffered mild injuries after the police cane-charged them. Above 250 farmers from different places were rounded up. We had only planned to stage a state-level protest and announce our further decision to stage a protest on July 27, 28 and 29 at the district level, but the police in an undemocratic way prevented us from doing so.”

Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma said, “Around 150 farmers were detained but released later in the evening. Neither was there any lathi-charge nor was any farmer thrashed.”
Farmers block Moga-Barnala highway

Moga: Hundreds of farmers, who were heading for Bathinda to participate in a stir against the SAD-BJP government, were stopped by the police at Saidoke village on Tuesday. A group of over 200 farmers jumped over the police barricades and sat on a dharna on the Saidoke-Bhagike road blocking the traffic till the filing of this report. TNS

HARSH THAKOR SAYS DIP OUR BLOOD IN GLORY OF COMRADE NIDHAN SINGH GUDHANI KALAN ON 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF MARTYRDOM ON JUNE 23RD

25 years ago comrade Nidhan Singh Gudhan was hanged to death by Khalistani fascist terrorists.

He was resolutely determined not to sell the secrets of the Central Team of the C.P.I.(M.L.)

He was kidnapped by the Khalistanis from his village in Ludhiana district.

With the resilience of a comrade reverberating the spirit of Marx.Lenin,Slain or Mao Nidhan did not yield to the enemy.

He possessed mastery of Marxist polemics and defended Marxism-Leninism-Mao thought with the sharpness of a sword and resilience of a boulder.withstanding a gale storm.

He joined the Communist movement from 1956 and at every juncture thwarted the forces of revisionism and the bourgeoisie.

He played a great role in organizing the peasantry applying maoist polemics, playing a major role in forming the kisan sangharsh committee.

He reverberated the very spirit of soldiers in Vietnam and Stalingrad. The organization he was part of the Central Team of the C.P.I.(M.L.) had played a major role in defending the correct marxist Leninist line against khalistani and state terrorism and often infiltrated the secrets and moves of the Khalistani fascist enemies.

On an all-India level it defended the armed movements in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh and refuted all groups in the revolutionary camp that took to parliamentary course.

The work of Nidhan Singh played a significant role in the building of agricultural workers organization .

On several occasions in his life he was arrested.

In spite of being advanced he posessed phenomenal depths of energy and at the time of his death was presidents of Kisan sangharsh commitee,Ropar.comrade Nidhan blended the courage of a soldier with the skill of a technician and the heart of a poet.

He also mastered Sikh religious teachings which created ground for him to combat Sikh religious communal politics. He cut Khalistani ideogy at it's very roots.

His commemoration meeting was simply unforgettable, like a meeting held in memory of a martyr in the Chinese Revolution earlier or in Peruvian Sendero Luminoso at that time .

Significantly just 2 weeks previously before 2000 people he adressed a rally in memory of martyr Tarsem Bawa, early martyr of Naxalite movement. in Bawa village.

Around 5000 people gathered at Nidhan's commemoration meeting in village Gudhani Kalan in Ludhiana ,reminiscent of a huge red light shimmering.

Their hearts were burning with the rage of a bonfire.Several mass leaders of mass organizations adressed the meeting.like Amolak Singh of Surkh Rekha, and Jaspal Jassi of Inquilabi Jantak leeh.

The speakers reached at the root of the fascist nature of the khalistani movement and their anti-people deeds.

They pledged that such martyrdoms would only intensify the raging spirit within the masses and sharpen the tentacles of the revolutionary movement.

The way the people thronged to the meeting and responded they could put the khalistani movement to it's knees.Nidhan Singh Gudhan's death was avenged a few days after his martyrdom.2 secret armed organizations ,the 'Kartar Singh Sarabha brigade' and the 'Red Guards' killed the person involved in Nidhan's execution.

This was a significant action and displayed the importance of avenging killing of comrades.

Today in India when the Hindu communal fascist R.S.S. or Sangh Parivar forces are waging a war against secular forces and lighting the saffron colour we need comrades to combat it with the sharpness and courage of Comrade Nidhan Singh.Marxist Leninist-Maoist polemics have to be applied and Hindutva fascism must be fought at it's very roots.

Comrade Nidhan did not waver towards the revisionist left compromising with state terror nor to those who soft-pedalled with khalistani forces.Displaying such resolute and death -defying determination and political defiance would prevent Hindu fascism from consolidating it's position.

Today the movement of landless peasants or dalit workers in Sangrur and of the landed peasantry of BKU Ugrahan in Bathinda reverberate the very light of Nidhan Singh Gudhnan's life.It is only such crusaders against revisionism of al kinds who lay the base for peoples liberation or revolutionary movements

I wish comrades read the documents or writings of the Central Team C.P.I.(M.L.) in journal 'Liberation ', which Nidhan Singh was part of .They tooth and nail thwarted revisionism , fought all rightist deviations, defended massline and upheld revolutionary armed struggle as the main form of struggle being critical of all groups deferring it.

Few comrades in Punjab have defended mass line as much as Nidhan Singh.

Nidhan Singh's son Nazar Singh Boparai was the publisher of the Surkh Rekha journal ,which played a greater role than any mass paper in Punjab's revolutionary movement.

No paper was so popular in the revolutionary camp in the khalistani period.

Sadly today Nazar Singh turned against the line Surkh Rekha adopted after merging with the Inquilabi Jantak leeh journal in1992 3 and split the magaziner, occusing it of adopting class-colaborationist line.

Thus now there is Surkh Rekha and Surkh Leeh.

Today Nidhan Singh would have been proud of the armed movement and martyrs laying down their lives in Dandakarnaya as well as the secular peasant resurgence in Punjab. His name will be written in golden letters throughout the annals of the revolutionary movement carving a permanent niche.

France : Against the rise of fascism, let us prepare the people’s war!

The murder of Clément Méric* by a far-right gang, the dismantlement of migrants’ settlements, the rise of islamophobia, of anti-Roma hatred, of antisemitism, left-wing and right-wing parties aligning themselves more and more with the far-right which has rooted itself as a rising force in the election game… All these elements contribute to the majority of activists feeling compelled to admit that there is indeed a rise of fascism in France. It is easy to observe that this rise of fascism is not specific to France. If these elements make us feel this rise of fascism, if we want to fight fascism, we need more than good intentions: we need a clear and precise definition of what fascism is in order to be able to oppose to it an adapted strategy that will lead us to victory.

What is fascism?

“The imperialist circles are trying to shift the whole burden of the crisis onto the shoulders of the working people. That is why they need fascism.” Georges Dimitrov, 1935.

Fascism historically emerged for the first time in the 1920’s and 1930’s. It has been clearly analyzed for the first time during the Seventh Congress of the Communist International based on the analysis of George Dimitrov. Fascism is there defined in a precise manner, here is its class character: fascism is the open terrorist dictatorship of finance capital. With capital not being able to govern by the traditional means of liberal democracy, the most reactionary fringe of capital seizes power of brutally imposes itself on the whole of society. This necessity for finance capital to take on the form of a terrorist dictatorship was also characterized by the presence of a strong workers’ movement, notably the proximity of the USSR. One of the characteristics of today’s forms of fascism is, as it happens, the absence of this revolutionary proletarian movement threatening capitalism. Fascism can therefore spread originally in today’s society.

How to fight fascism?

Armed with this materialist definition of fascism, we understand that fascism is inextricably linked to capitalism. Its purpose is to brutally maintain capitalism when it enters periods of important crises during which the social order is inevitably disrupted. A lesson must be learned from this: we cannot fight fascism while relying on one fringe of the bourgeoisie against another. Bourgeoisie can never be an ally in the struggle against fascism. The antifascist struggle is revolutionary in essence, because the only way to put an end to the fascist threat is to overthrow the bourgeoisie in order to put an end to capitalism.

From there, we understand that the struggle against fascism does not consist of massively voting against the Front National* during the elections while establishing a “republican front”. But to oppose fascism, there is a need to unite but no unity can be possible without principles, from where the necessity of a revolutionary antifascism, that is to say an antifascism that recognizes that we can only struggle against fascism while struggling against capitalism. This antifascist front does not express itself through the bourgoisie’s elections but in concretes struggles. It must unite the masses in all the areas of life, it must rally as largely as possible around a revolutionary strategy, be it the mobilization against repression and police brutality, women’s mobilization for their emancipation through a proletarian feminist front, the mobilization for housing, the mobilization for the proletarian youth, etc.

Antifascism cannot be limited to the confrontation between antifascists and far-right gangs. Antifascism must be above all a strong class unity with a revolutionary goal. In order to achieve this strong class unity, true antifascists must mobilize and organize the proletariat where it is to be found: that is to say in popular neighborhoods. Since the end of the 1980’s, with the formal end of the USSR, the confirmation of revisionism’s triumph in China and the collapse of the “people’s democracies”, we were witnesses to the drop of revolutionary and progressist ideas in France, notably with the end of the mass organizations of the revisionist Parti Communiste Français* in popular neighborhoods and factories. This organizational and cultural emptiness allowed the bourgeoisie to carry out numerous attacks against the proletariat. It is upon this ideological emptiness that reactionary ideas have been able to progress and that fascists have recently been able to launch reactionary mass mobilizations like the Manif Pour Tous*.

Therefore, it is only through a revolutionary project, while strengthening the class unity of the proletariat, that we will be able to efficiently struggle against the rise of fascism.

What revolutionary strategy?

If we are talking about proletarian revolution, we need to know how to do it. It is not possible to create a revolutionary antifascist front without revolutionary strategy. Many people call themselves revolutionary today but only perceive revolution as something far away, like a “grand soir”* that could only be reached after a lengthy and pacific accumulation of forces. This insurrectionary strategy has been long considered inconsistent. By taking the revolution back to the Greek Calends, we open the door to a reformist drift and the illusions that come with it.

Revolution needs preparation. It is triggered and necessarily lasts some time. A revolution cannot happen without the tools to lead it. These tools are that Communist Party which unites the most ideologically and practically advanced elements of the proletariat, the Revolutionary Front which organizes the masses in all the areas of life, it is the organization of the masses by the masses with a revolutionary goal, and finally the Fighting Force which takes on the violent confrontation with the bourgeoisie that won’t give up its power. These three tools are developped at the same time but in an inegal manner. One of the roles of the Fighting Force is, at first and mainly, to make sure that our demonstrations are protected (unlike a regular “service d’ordre” preventing so-called illegal actions, but by protecting the whole of the demonstration against the police and the fascists) and to attack symbolic targets.

This strategy is what we call the strategy of the protracted people’s war. The people’s war opposes the imperialist war. Its goal is to accomplish a revolution by largely mobilizing the masses with the working class in the lead while combining all necessary tactics (violent, non-violent, legal, illegal, …) in order to take us to the next steps (from defense to offense via balance) leading to the overthrow of the bourgeois State.

It is not enough to say “violence is legitimate against the bourgeois State” to actually fight it, this violence needs to be organized within a clear strategy and is carried out within the mobilization of the masses, if the revolutionaries do not want to be cut off from them, isolated, and then crushed by the repression. We must congratulate, support, and systematize the struggling proletariat’s experiences of rupture from bourgeois legality, like the workers of Goodyear and Air France did. Such violent episodes of class struggle in our country, in which the 2005 suburbs revolt* is included, constitute what the people’s war will be able to develop on, they can’t be overestimated nor neglected: they are to be developed further and further!

Let us develop revolutionary and popular unity against fascism!

Let us prepare the people’s war, only solution against the rise of fascism!

Join the maoists’ ranks!

* Clément Méric was a Paris-based antifascist activist who was murdered by fascists during a confrontation with a far-right gang on June 5th, 2013.
* The Front National (National Front) is France’s most prominent far-right political party and has been analyzed as being fascist in nature by many far-left organizations.
* The Parti Communiste Français (French Communist Party) used to be France’s most important left-wing political party during the first half of the 20th century. It turned revisionist and has suffered a progressive decline in membership and votes since the 1970’s. Today, it is only communist by name.
* The Manif Pour Tous (Demo For Everyone) was a 2013 French reactionary campaign, led by right-wing and traditionalist catholic organizations, aimed at pressuring the French government to abandon its “Mariage pour tous” (Marriage for everybody) project to legalize same-gender marriage. It led up to one million people in the streets at the heights of the mobilization, but was unsuccessful as the bill was validated in May 2013.
* The Grand Soir (Great Evening) is a French expression describing a spontaneous revolution.
* The 2005 French suburbs revolt was a nation-wide set of confrontations with police that lasted up to three weeks in popular neighborhoods after the death of two boys following a police chase in the Paris suburb. It led the State to declare a “state of emergency” on the national territory for the first time since the Algerian War of Independence (1961).

Dandacaranya - the Song by Oskar from the group Naxaliterna (the naxalites)

The Sun is rising in Dandacaranya

the eyes of the trees see a people so proud

The Sun is shining and the rivers run free

Praise the people of  Dandacaranya

The Heart of India covered in darkness,

Souless soldiers villages burn

For nothing but money so turns this world

Guns to our head

But we are not dead

No Stay ! Adivasis say

The Indian Army must run away

A future worth fighting for

Deep in the forests of Dandacaranya

Chorus

We sing our song to sounds of drum from the forest of Dandacaranya

We cry for our dead and we know what to do

We feast - raise your glass

Salute the People's War that shines out of Dandacaranya

The Sun gives the day

The poor writes the law

In the forests of Dandacaranya

Smash the plans, their wicked designs

To starve Dandacaranya

The shadow of evil blocks out the sun over the hills and valleys

The enemy flees when the people fight even though blood was spilt

That turns the river red - our flag is flying in Dandacaranya

Resistance never dies , it multiplies

A forest of people descends on Delhi

Darkness and shadows fades away with the light from Dandacaranya

Media Exaggerations of Apocalyptic Venezuela plays into regime change narrative

Democracy and Class Struggle has criticisms of current Venezuelan Government handling of current crisis - but we want the response to the crisis to be further deepening of a socialist direction and elimination of the bureaucratic bourgeoisie and more power to the popular movements.

We support the widespread creation of people's militia's to confront imperialist attempts to overthrow the Venezuelan  Government.Support The local Committees of Supply and Production (CLAP) in Venezuela
