Protesters Surround and Shame Undercover Provocateur - Plain Clothes Police Officer
Usually, it is the police who kettle protesters. The tables were turned, though, when demonstrators unmasked and surrounded a plain-clothes officer who had infiltrated their midst during this week's public sector protests.
The hoodie-wearing interloper was discovered by protesters from the Occupy movement from St Paul's while they were attempting to take over a building near Piccadilly Circus in central London on Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred outside the offices of the mining company Xstrata, was captured on video by The Independent(above, left). Protesters asked the man whether he worked for the Metropolitan Police. He can be seen in the film nodding and answering: "Yeah, I'm a Met Police officer, yeah."
At that, one of the group said: "Right, let's circle him so he can't go anywhere." Protesters duly surrounded the officer, chanting "shame on you". Within moments the chants turned to "scum, scum, scum". One protester was heard to say: "He has no uniform and no [badge] number... we have no way of identifying him, so how are we supposed to complain about him."
The officer was allowed to reach the line of uniformed police who were kettling the protest, and they let him through. Protesters have complained recently about a perceived increase in the number of plain-clothes or undercover police officers at protest marches. Videos of people suspected of such a role have surfaced online, and cards with images of those thought to be police officers have reportedly been distributed among demonstrators.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed yesterday that plain-clothes officers were deployed "to observe and identify those people who were committing offences". He added: "When uniformed officers arrived on scene the plain-clothes officers were on hand to identify those who had committed crimes so they could make arrests."
"The deployment of plain-clothes officers is an effective tactic to tackle crime in many situations including public order events," the spokesman said. He confirmed that plain-clothes officers are trained to judge whether to reveal their identity if challenged by members of the public.
Protesters claimed to have unmasked seven men they believed to be plain-clothes officers – including the one in The Independent'svideo – as they were kettled on Wednesday afternoon.
Campaigners denounced the use of plain-clothes police as "underhand" and "utterly unwelcome," calling it "a form of deception, [which] runs utterly counter to principles of accountable policing".
A spokesman for the Defend the Right to Protest group said: "This underhand tactic is far more common than many people think."
Val Swain, of the Network for Police Monitoring, said: "Unlike uniformed police officers, those in plain clothes wear no identifying numbers, and cannot be held to account. The use of plain clothes police can cause an unpleasant level of distrust among demonstrators, even those who are law-abiding. Nobody wants to go on a demonstration where you are not sure whether the person next to you could be recording what you say for the police file. That is not the sort of society we want to live in.
"In addition, we have no information about the remit of plain-clothes police officers at demonstrations. What is the extent of their role?
"This is an invasive policing tactic that has no regard for civil liberties. Those engaged in protest already feel under siege from aggressive and disproportionate policing."

Occupy London Stock Exchange , Public Sector Strike , Panton House Occupation
Public Sector strike / demonstration, London, November 30th occupy london stock exchange enter panton house offices of Xstrata whose CEO Mick Davies was highest paid FTSE 100 CEO - £18 million last year.
Occupy London targets UK’s highest paid FTSE CEO
19
Occupy London – part of the global movement for social and economic justice – today highlighted the corporate greed endemic in the UK and called for a change within society.
About 60 protestors gained entry into the offices of mining company Xstrata, a ‘leading light’ of the FTSE 100 and British industry to highlight the fact that CEO Mick Davies was the highest compensated CEO of all the FTSE 100 companies in the last year, when his companies had losses and the economy collapsed. He received £18,426,105 for his efforts. [1]
This comes in a year when the average pay rise of executives across FTSE 100 companies was 43%, with ‘top’ directors at 49%. [2]
Led by a samba band to the building from Piccadilly Circus, the protesters entered the HQ at 25-7 Haymarket, London, with the protesters chanting against the corporate greed of Mick and other executives, in support of all those striking for fair pensions for all today. The protestors also unfurled a banner saying “All power to the 99%” from the roof top.
There are currently about 20 protesters inside – being held down on knees, of which many are women. There are a few hundred people kettled outside.
The protesters today are making the connection between the slashing of private and public sector pensions, while supposed ‘top’ executives cash in by increasing their own pay levels, leaving many without pensions. These CEOs like Mick Davies lavishly secure their own futures while ignoring the security and wellbeing of their own workers.
Mines have closed in Australia, South Africa and Spain within the last decade resulting in hundreds of workers in the last decade being laid off.
Karen Lincoln, supporter of Occupy London said: “Mick Davies is a prime example of the greedy 1 per cent, lining their own pockets while denying workers pensions. In this time when the government enforces austerity on the 99 per cent, these executives are profiting. The rest of us are having our pensions cuts, health service torn apart and youth centres shut down.
“We refuse to stand by and let this happen. We call on others to join us in the fight for a more just society. Today we have taken this to one of the offices of the 1 per cent. This is only the beginning. Come and join us on 15th December for Occupy Everywhere.”
Occupy London will unveil details of Occupy Everywhere soon. Be ready.

Communist Party of Greece (marxist-leninist) we express our condolences for the cold-blooded murder and planned assassination of com. Kishanji alias Mallojula Koteswara Rao, Politburo Member of CPI (Maoist) on 24 November 2011.
Athens 28 November 2011Dear comradesOn behalf of the cadres as well as the rank and file members of the Communist Party of Greece (marxist-leninist) we express our condolences for the cold-blooded murder and planned assassination of com. Kishanji alias Mallojula Koteswara Rao, Politburo Member of CPI (Maoist) on 24 November 2011. We strongly condemn the murderous Indian state which, once more, manifested its barbarous character against any revolutionary fighting to defend people’s rights and social liberation. This murder comes a few months after the torture and killing of com. Azad, another high cadre of PCI (Maoist) and exposes the hate but also the fear of the Indian reactionary establishment for the development of people’s struggle all over India.Greek communists will by all means express their solidarity through their own struggle against imperialism and reactionary forces, promoting our common tasks for a revolutionary change and a socialist future.Political Bureau,Communist Party of Greece (marxist-leninist)
The CARC Party, the Association for Proletarian Solidarity, the Struggling Workers Union, organizations united with the (new) Italian Communist Party in building the revolution in Italy, to make our country a new socialist country, join the communist, progressive and democratic forces of the world in condemning the murder of Kishenji, spokesman of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Comrade Kishenji was killed on behalf of the fascist India rulers, as happened a year and a half ago, when it was killed Azad, who preceded Kishenji as a spokesman of the party, in collusion with the government of West Bengal.
The Italian communist movement pays homage to the martyrs of the fascist, barbaric and terrorist regime ruling India. They rise alongside all those who struggling for communism against fascism gave their lives as Antonio Gramsci in our country and millions of others in Italy and worldwide did.
Barbarity and fascism cannot win. The new birth of the communist movement cannot be stopped. Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, the revolutionary theory of our time, heirs the best legacy of the first communist movement, overcomes its limits and opens the main road to victory.
We support the resistance of the masses against the Indian war of extermination that the State is waging against them, we support the revolution in India with all forms of solidarity and above all, building the revolution in our country, making the revolution in an imperialist country, and so raising the new wave of proletarian revolution which grows all over the world.
Glory to Comrade Kishenji!
Long live the International Communist Movement!
Long live Marxism-Leninism Maoism!

Association for Proletarian Solidarity,
Struggling Workers Union
