Bathinda, August 31

Various organisations, on the call of the Anti-Dalit Atrocities Drive Committee, took out a protest march in support of five human rights activists, who have been arrested for allegedly inciting violence in the Bhima Koregaon incident in Janaury.

A large number of people first gathered at Teachers Home, where committee convener Lachman Singh Sevawala and Dr Parminder, while addressing the public, said the Sangh Parivar and the BJP government were trying to suppress each and every voice, which was not toeing their line.

They are intensifying the anti-people polices initiated by all earlier governments, including the Congress, they added.

They alleged that the Modi government was targeting democratic and peace-loving citizens so as to carry on with its policy of giving natural resources of the country, which include water, forests and land to corporate houses.

They said on January 1 at Bheema Koregaon, seeing the huge gathering of Dalits to mark the sacrifice day, the BJP, on directions from the Sangh, organised attack on the Dalit gathering.

They added that the close aides of the BJP and Sangh, who incited violence, were roaming freely, whereas human activists, who spoke in support of Dalits, were booked and arrested to create fear and tension in the country.

Other leaders advocate NK Jeet and Amolak Singh said it was a part of BJP’s attack on people raising their voice or fighting for their rights.

They appreciated the activists for speaking boldly against polices of the government and also appealed to them to intensify their drive.

They demanded that the arrested five activists should be released at the earliest and cases against them should be cancelled
