Whitewashing Ukraine's Nazi collaborators - The Quisling of the Ukraine Stephan Bandera exposed

Democracy and Class Struggle says building 22 statues in the Ukraine to a Nazis Quisling Bandera has not brought any objections from NATO to my knowledge, in fact they rely on this political filth to carry out their policy of NATO enlargement.

Below is a statement from Russia at the security council on Bandera which any country that aspires to be civilised or democratic would subscribe to - notice the absence of Obama speaking on this subject - liberals have always covered for Nazis and fascists  and still do so to this day when it suits their interests.

When will William Hague speak out against the statues of the Ukrainian Quisling Bandera ? His silence speaks louder than any words has he insults the memories of those that fought Nazism and Fascism in the Second World War.

Attempts to whitewash the backgrounds of Ukrainian nationalists who openly cooperated with the Nazis and committed mass murders in WWII are "morally repulsive," and encourage "nationalist ideology, extremism and intolerance," Russia's UN envoy says.

"It is deeply disturbing that the followers of [Stepan] Bandera are openly marching these days in Ukraine, displaying his portraits and fascist insignia, and are wielding considerable political power in Kiev," Vitaly Churkin said after Thursday's Security Council meeting in response to response to comments made earlier by Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN Yury Sergeyev.

Attempts to whitewash them "are not only morally repulsive, they amount to encouraging nationalist ideology, extremism and intolerance," Churkin stated.

Churkin quoted Sergeyev as saying earlier that Soviet Union "tried to press Western allies to recognize what you called 'Banderas' and others as killers." And the reason the Nurnberg process didn't recognize that was "because it was falsified."

In response to that claim, Churkin said that there are "massive documentary evidence" that proves otherwise, pointing to the fact that the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) "collaborated with the Nazis."

"They took part in mass killings of civilians and punitive operations against partisans in Belarus, Ukraine and Poland," Churkin said.

It began with the invasion of Ukraine by the Nazi troops, which was followed by OUN's leader Stepan Bandera issuing the Act of Proclamation of Ukrainian Statehood that stated: "The newly-formed Ukrainian state will work closely with the National-Socialist Greater Germany, which under leadership of Adolf Hitler is forming a new order in Europe and the world..."

During WWII those Ukrainians that joined in the Nazi collaborators "provided the majority of the executioners who murdered over 150,000 Jews in Babiy Yar in Kiev. Gypsies and Soviet POWs were also executed there," the Russian UN envoy stated.

Churkin cited another horrific example in which over 100,000 women, children and unarmed men were slaughtered in Volhynia, Poland.

During the last decade any attempts by Ukraine to make Bandera out to be a national hero were heavily criticized around the world.

Churkin quoted international Jewish human rights organization the Simon Wiesenthal Center as expressing "deepest revulsion" in 2010 at the decision by the then-president of Ukraine to honor Bandera.

In another case, the European Parliament adopted a resolution also in 2010, which criticized the decision to award Bandera the title of 'National Hero of Ukraine'.

"The European Parliament called on the Ukrainian leadership to reconsider such decision and 'maintain its commitment to European values'," Churkin recalled.

That same year, Polish President Lech Kaczynski acknowledged that OUN and UPA helped with mass murders of Polish civilians, killing 100,000 people. Churkin quoted him as saying: "Poles were being killed for being Poles."

Ethnic cleansing of Poles in Volhynia and Galicia

Beginning in 1943, the UPA adopted a policy of massacring and expelling the Polish population of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia. The ethnic cleansing operation against the ethnic Polish population began on a large scale in late February of that year and lasted until the end of 1944.

In Volhynia deadly acts of aggression, including the mass murder of Poles, occurred throughout 1943 before spreading to eastern Galicia in early 1944.

In June 1943, Dmytro Klyachkivsky head-commander of UPA-North made a general decision to exterminate all male Poles living in Volhynia. July 11, 1943, was one of the bloodiest days of the massacres, with UPA units marching from village to village, killing Polish civilians.

On that day UPA units surrounded and attacked 99 of Polish villages and settlements in three counties -- Kowel, Horochow, and Włodzimierz Wołyński. On the following day fifty additional villages were attacked.

Between August 21 and 25, 1943, during the Third Convention of the OUN, Roman Shukhevych accepted the "Volhynia stategy," an operation which aimed at Poles and had been conducted by Dmytro Klyachkivsky.

The methods used by the Ukrainian nationalists in both Galicia and Volhynia consisted of killing all Poles in the villages, then pillaging the villages and burning them to the ground. Victims, regardless of age or gender, were routinely tortured to death.

In late 1943 and early 1944, after most Poles of Volhynia had either been murdered or had fled, the killings moved to the neighboring province of Galicia. In March 1944, the main Command of the UPA ordered the ethnic cleansing of all Poles from Galicia. Unlike Volhynia, where Polish villages were destroyed and their inhabitants murdered without warning, Poles in eastern Galicia were sometimes given the choice of fleeing or being killed.

By the end of summer 1944, mass acts of terror aimed at Poles were taking place in Eastern Galicia to force them to resettle on the western bank of the San river. A popular slogan during the period was "Poles beyond the San". Ukrainian peasants sometimes joined the UPA in the violence, and large bands of armed marauders, unaffiliated with the UPA, brutalized civilians. In other cases however, Ukrainian civilians took significant steps to protect their Polish neighbors, either hiding them during UPA raids or vouching that the Poles were actually Ukrainians.

The total number of Poles murdered specifically by UPA is unknown. Estimates of the Polish deaths in Volhynia are over 50,000. The number of UPA victims in Volhynia, Galicia and current Poland combined ranges from 80,000 to 100,000.

  1. I've read that the Ukrainian nationalists spent more time murdering poles and fighting Poland than they spent fighting the USSR. Half of today's Ukraine was the Kingdom of Lithuania and Poland. For a movement that hates Russia so much they've spent most of their history murdering Poles and Jews. The UPA and OUN B groups leaders were important to the US in hundreds as intelligence assets. Nazis and Nazi collaborators as it turned out, when the files were declassified in recent years, were feeding both the US and the USSR a line of hogwash and lies in order to avoid being convicted of warcrimes. Even America's Nazi rocket scientists didn't do any actual science in the US, rather they guided teams of US scientists to build the rockets. There was a popular idea among US policy making circles that "we needed them" as William Colby has said. This was self serving nonsense from a Washington government that was mad that the Red Army got to Berlin and Vienna first and didn't want to be demobilized. What could be better than a permanent "cold" war and a national security state? The truth is that Putin has played things very carefully. They've secured their military bases and fortified their borders, as any country would do. He has always responded reasonably to unreasonable western politicians. This isn't unusual, the dominant idea in the world in dealing with the US threat is to avoid direct conflict with the US and hope that the US will eventually exhaust or bankrupt itself during the course of its military adventures before actually coming into any serious conflict with the US. Chinese military planners feel that an eventual war with the US is inevitable, sadly US military planners feel the same way. Ukrainian fascists in the US ran a small journal called "Svoboda", their committee offices are located on Second Street in Manhattan where Mykola Lebed ran them until his death in 1998. Mykola Lebed helped plan the extermination of the Poles. Estimates run from 100,000 to 200,000, usually any casualty figure you see can be safely doubled or tripled to arrive at a real figure. That's the calculus of death.
