Political activists and leaders of the People’s Struggle Movement in Sri Lanka, Mr. Premakumar Gunaratnam and Ms. Dimithu Attygalle disappeared on 6th April 2012. after being abducted by the Sri Lankan Government, they are now released and the Peoples Struggle Movement of which they are members has become the Frontline Socialist Party in Sri Lanka.
Democracy and Class Struggle had a chance to have an interview with Dimuthu Attgalle following her release and we publish the interview for the first time here.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party Ceylon (Maoist) Surendra Ajit Rupasinghe says :
"The abduction of Premakumar Gunaratnam and Dimuthu Atygala and their sudden release – quite unprecedented- reveals the logic driving the future course of the Regime. It is clear that the Regime engineered the abductions and then backed off given the rising tide of opposition from a wide array of political forces and human rights organizations and in the face of the spirited and determined challenge posed by the spectacular success of the founding congress of the new Frontline Socialist Party of which both abductees were leading members."
Democracy and Class Struggle says , since October 2011 alone, around 60 individuals have been abducted or ‘disappeared’ , in so-called ‘white van’ incidents (after the colour and favoured vehicle of the perpetrators). Most of them are not of Tamil origin, unlike during the war, but rather from the Sinhala, Muslim and the indigenous peoples (Wanniyaletto) communities.
However, among them are two supporters of the new party of Tamil origin, Lalith Weeraraj and Kugan Murugandan. Both activists were abducted on 9 December 2011 in Jaffna where they were campaigning for justice with family members of Tamils who have been ‘disappeared’ or reported missing during the last stages of the war. Weeraraj and Murugandan’s whereabouts and physical safety remain uncertain; and international solidarity for their release must be redoubled.
