WHEN WE EXIST
On life and death, suffice to say,
Negating myth in sanguine way,
Matter’s all - no Angels fly.
Atoms swerve - souls dissolve and die
Chorus:
No gods beyond yet measured seeing;
No heaven/hell for mortal being;
No condign Judge condemning sin,
Just Space-Time – where by chance we spin.
God the Father – dead men’s vanity.
Long debunked by cognoscenti,
Book-ended by eternity,
Factor out spook paternity.
Evolution shows life in depth.
Double-Helix transcends death.
Cells divide – multiply and thrive.
It’s genes, not gods, that got us here alive.
From entropy we recognise
All inception entails demise.
Prioritise l’elan vital between;
Being and truth disdain Golden Mean.
When we exist – death is not,
And where death is – breath is not.
Acknowledge logic – oblivion to come.
In unmoved void, demons and deities none.

SONG FOR ATHEISTS
SONG FOR ATHEISTS(Same take as before, but have corrected absence of written lyrics and added after credits and quotes.) This is for all you hardcore anti-Neo-Platonists out there! Aleatory-materialism rules - OK? A salutary and rational rejection of all delusional faith-based religious certitudes proselytised over the millennia by a dazzling plethora of; mystics, mendicants, missionaries, monks, mullahs, priests, popes, prelates, padres, pastors, preachers, pontifs, bishops, brahmins, imams,saddhus, sacristans, sextons, curates, clerics, chaplains, rectors, rabbis, gurus, witch-doctors, lamas, along with the rest of history'sgod-botherers and assorted sad-sacks Materialism rejects teleology and the doctrine of 'final causes'; contesting idealism over the nature of reality and causality. The mechanistic explanation of the former led to science and its dominant position in the present age, the latter to teleology and religion.The argument had in fact been framed long before by Greek philosophers of the Athenian Golden Age and idealism/dualism had manifestly triumphed, through Christianity, from that period onward, becoming ideologically and institutionally dominant in Europe. The feudal triangle of King, church, aristocracy was displaced, albeit differentially, from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment. The triumph of capitalist industrialisation and the rise of the bourgeoisie saw the emergence from the new matrix of progressive secular ideologies,with revolutionary socialism fully bending the fork fully towards formally heterodox materialist atheism of state and culture. In many respects Christianity is closer to Plato than Jehovah, drawing much of its core dogma from this Greek source, the concept of hell and the individual, immortal soul; the most obviously derived. However, just as Plato found his interlocutor, Plotinus. in the later age of Rome,so Epicurus found his champion In Lucretius in that same empire. I have either directly quoted or paraphrased the words and concepts of several philosophers and scientists in the verse, but with particular attention and reverence for Epicurus, whose unflappable rationality and humanity radiates through the ages, and illumines hitherto "Caverns measureless to man." ."Away with all your superstitions! Servile masses arise!"Avanti populoSONG FOR ATHEISTS(Same take as before, but have corrected absence of written lyrics and added after credits and quotes.) Just to add that the striking images accompanying song are from Soviet playing cards from 1930's - History's first atheist state in its heroic period of socialist construction.
